| Evil Directors at Nationals Oog, I had the STUPIDEST director yesterday!! Evil director! He kept screwing up the score! I couldn't believe it! Me being sort of quiet, I didn't say anything, I'd just kind of look at him, but oog! He'd announce the score like 9-8, then the next touch I get he'd say I was at nine AGAIN!! I wanted to to hit him in the head with my foil! lol, I'd never do that but it's nice to think about. I had him for my last DE also, but it was easier for him. At one point it was 10-1 in my opponent's favor (I did come back and get 4 points in a row before she got 15!!). Anyone else have this guy?

| no i wasn't there, but i rooted for each and every one of you! now you know why fencers get "testy" even on the board! see? you almost wanted to hit the director On The Head With Your Foil! (ouch * bonk!). But Directors are all sooooooo dense and of course BLIND, that they just wouldn't feel it.
The following is a classic example of perception used in a General Psychology class: a car accident happens on a street corner. the cops arrive and ask 5 witnesses to tell them what happened and describe everything: the result? Five different answers, Five different descriptions.

| Too bad they didn't have palmtops with the software for scoring the matches, it would of saved a lot of problems.

I have that eigertek software on my palm. It is pretty cool, it works great and will even flip the coin in the case of ties. Too bad I dont direct eh?
But I recommend it to anyone who needs a timer and score keeper all in one, and it was free to download.

| Honestly, I had some *great* directors at Nationals!! There was a woman, I'm guessing just a tad bit older than me, who directed one of my pools efficiently and with a pleasant sense of humor. And the guy who's horribly inconsistent and blind at MARC events was quite good, much to the amazement of a few of us.
And then there was the fellow who called, "Halt!" before the action was done, quite consistently.
Of course, everybody likes to blame the director when they lose, but if you're "losing the action," as he told me when I protested the second premature halt, at lunge distance, you probably shouldn't be reffing at nationals. Fortunately, I've learned some stuff about the recourse available when that sort of crap happens.
Ah well...train smarter, train harder, and train for more one-lighters.

| I won the bout though! Anyways, I had really good directors also. One lady was really good, and very clear and nice. I'm not complaining about all directors, I was just kind of shocked. I'm over it now, though
I'm not blaming him for my final DE loss either, I taped my bout, and saw my crappy fencing, hehe.

| The parents liked the way I refereed the Y10 (or was it Y12?) boys' foil. I threw in lots of commentary, and made it appreciable by the parents who are still new to the sport. The bout was between Holbrook and this person from Maine (Down East School of Fencing, DESF)...forgot the name. But, Holbrook attacked, the guy parried, riposted to the shoulder (at Y10 or Y12!), but Holbrook counter-parried and hit back to the shoulder. So I called it, "Left ATTACKED! But Right PARRIED and RIPOSTED to the shoulder, but Left COUNTER-PARRIED AND HIT RIGHT!!!!! SCOREEEEEEEEEE!"

| Edew,
Not only did the parents apreciate this involved directing, and enjoy how much fun you were having- so did Holbrook!

Those kind of things just spice up the experience. I make all kinds of comments in-salle, but at nats...he he he.
