    Cool Moves

So what was the coolest fencing move that you did (or was done to you) in the past few days?

Please specify which weapon, to give it proper context.

Coolest move ever, epee, done by a B rated fencer somewhere:

Opposition 7, spin around, hit behind the back. The way he did it, it wasn't actually legal, but...it was awesome.

Got into infighting with a person, stood up on my tip toes and moved my blade back past my own head to hit him in his back (we were back to back.) That was neat.

I have only heard about this one, but there are posters here who claim to have seen it.

My coach fleches hoping to flick his opponent. His opponent ducks, and my coach realizes he is going over him. He turns his tip down to hit and just like in diving his body follows his head and he does a front flip over his opponent. Everyone agrees there was a front flip, but my coach claims he didn't actually hit, but his opponent claims my coach got the touch.

I can actually see my coach doing this. Even though he's only like 5'6" he can probably jump up ~3' from en garde. According to him his favorite party trick used to be jumping up onto things.

Feint six, lateral wrist flick to outside of hand. Either that or an epee back flick.

come in seemingly recklessly and continuous, draw out straight attack. Prime-riposte. Looks and feels fairly impressive.

This one was pretty simple, but nicely judo-esque. I attack straight in, opponent parries 4 with some pressure to deflect my blade. I do a quick disengage, maintaining pressure, turning his parry 4 into my own circle-6 parry. Then with a snick of my wrist, pop him on his exposed forearm.

Nailing a Foilist with a lovely feint disengage.

Ahhh the simple pleasures. I did it twice as well.

    It's a pity she beat me 10-2.

For the record there were no Epeeists to fence tonight so I had a laugh with the foilists on the box. And she's a member of the Scottish squad. I really must remember that Epee counter-attacking is not good for Foil ...

    Favourite Epee move tonight?

    I don't know.

I did one bout with an Epeeist before he disappeared so I suppose I should say there was a little Epee on offer.

The most satisfying move would be a beat fleche. Arm extended at the right moment, point fixed correctly. Perfect. Apparently impressive to watch.

What wasn't good was the next hit where I fleched my opponent, while following through on a failed riposte, I slipped [on a cable or somethng] and fell on my elbow. It's very sore and has a nice egg on it.

    I killed a student - with a trident.

Poor kid shouldn't have flinched at the last second.

That's pretty cool and I would give you the appropriate numerical bonus but I can't right now.

You're probably wanted. You really should think about going into hiding for a few days.

Heard about a spanish fencer who fleche-flicked Seth Kelsey on the wrist at a NAC a few years ago - that was cool.

    MY favorite action;

Slow lunge starting high, finish (with acceleration) to front thigh/knee. Simple, and will almost always work, if done correctly, at least one time.

    Foil move:

Girl comes in for a quick baristra-lunge, I parry one (we're close) stand up, and try to flick at her stomach, and she recovers out of the way. She goes for my underarm, while I'm still kind of in one. I lunge forward, parry 2-tapping her blade out of the way, drop to my knees, and with my arm behind my back catch her right in the sternum before my knees hit the ground and director calls halt. Got lots of "ooohs" for that one.

    Epee move:

I lunge, aiming for the front knee and miss to the right. I kick my front leg out behind me, fall forward, and just as I hit the strip I get my opponent in his back shoe. Buised my off-wrist catching myself, but damn it was worth it.

    Sabre:

Opponent lunges, I step to the side and stand up; kind of parrying with my hand at face level with the blade along my body. Cut over his blade and run mine across his bib as I flesh on by.

I've used that too. I've gotten it to work on some VERY VERY VERY good fencers. I agree, its like a free point.

I wouldn't call it a cool move, but an odd thing happened today. I was fencing a guy that normally does epee, but we were doing dry foil today. He tried a fleche, and out of reflex, I went into a passato sotto. I think he tried to jump over it, but that wasn't a good idea. Still ran right into my tip, and almost fell right on top of me. Needed to straighten my foil after that, but at least I got the point.
