SAN DIEGO FENCER NEEDS HELP!!!

Ok as you can see on my user name I live in San Diego. 619 is San Diegos main area code before we got two more (858 and 760). Anyways, I have been fencing for a couple of years now and I greatly enjoy just as much as everyone else on here I'm sure. Fencing is offered at my community college and when I first took the class I was hooked and I learned pretty quickly. I want to start competing in tournaments but I would like to learn from more experienced fencers. There is ONLY ONE real school here in San Diego (Cabrillo Academy of the Sword) and I live on the other end of the county. Anyways maybe I'm just b*tching because it's far but I would love to meet people in the San Diego area who I could fence with and learn some pointers from. Thank you in advance.

if you're younger and feel you have a fencing future, or just love fencing forever, then ask yourself: Do you really have to live in San Diego? Can you move elsewhere where there is more fencing? If so, please think about it.

attila is on a distinguished road
Just how far is it in miles? We travel 200 miles to the nearest other fencing club for competitions.

Bud619-

I dont live in CA, but I have heard that Cabrillo Academy of the Sword is an excellent place. It is run my Edwin Buzz Hurst who is an accredited Maitre d'Armes (Master of Arms) and is also a former president of the USFCA. He has coached several team and individual champions.

His assistant is an accredited Moniteur d'Escrime and is a former medalist during the mid to late 80s. If I lived in San Diego I would probably have gone to this place.

You might want to check the place out, some people drive great distances to go to their clubs, schools, salles, etc. It just might be worth the trip if you are interested in serious competition.

Thanks for the info on the teacher. I am glad he is very experienced. I have a couple of friends that go to his school and I AM thinking of joining it when I transfer to a University closer to them. At the moment I wanted to meet other fencers in my area that maybe want to get together and practice. Thank you to everyone for their input. It is greatly appreciated.
