    Scotland's Operation Christian Vote (OCV)

I just saw a link in the UK's Sunday Times about this OCV group: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspap...818000,00.html article "Christians aim to unseat ungodly MSPs"

"A FUNDAMENTALIST Christian group is to field candidates against every MSP in Scotland with the help of £500,000 from a mystery benefactor.

The Scottish Christian party, formally known as Operation Christian Vote (OCV), believes it can win up to six seats in Holyrood at the 2007 election.

The party — founded by the Rev George Hargreaves, a Pentecostal minister, will scrutinise MSPs’ voting records on issues such as abortion, euthanasia, homosexual rights and the controversial family bill, which will lead to quicker divorces. "

Gav - do these guys have a chance, or are they no-hopers? (It relduces my embarrassment that other countries have the same ilk as here)

    No hopers.

They are well known fundamentalists. When I get a moment I'll see if I can dig something about them out. They fielded a couple of candidates at the last election and got some coverage as a result. They should be regarded as fringe candidates; in the same, but lesser, grouping as the loonies. They repersent some of the more backward religous elements of Scotland - the left over island presbyterians [mostly]. Do a google and if you are [un?]lucky you may be able to find an avi of their election broadcast.

Thanks for the info, Gav. I guess it's not unreasonable that every place has its fringe elements - so long as they remain on the fringes rather than the center of power.
