USFA 2002-03 season event sites? Has anyone seen the next USFA season event calendar yet? I've heard that Summer Nationals next year will be in Texas (and maybe a NAC, too), but I haven't been able to find an official site reference to confirm that information.
Point me in the right direction, please. -

Array My Bay Cup website has the dates and as much information as available (as of the Apr 25-29 Div I Nat/Youth NAC) on location. The sites are still being determined as we read...<a href="http://www.olagrande.net/users/edew/baycup/2002-03_Natl_Schedule.html" target="_blank">2002-2003 National Schedule.</a> -

Array No Palm Springs? Did the convention center screw around again? Any word on if it's going back to Ontario like 2 years ago? That'd cut my drive down in half...I might even be able to stay awake on the drive home this time!
Unless I manage to get my foil D, I'll probably do the practical directing test again...hopefully I won't make a botch of it like last year -

Array The rumor in georgia is that theirs gonna be one in Atlanta, but i heard that last year. -

Array Check my site again. The first Div I NAC is in Ohio. The second one, which had traditionally been in South Bend is in -- thankgawd! -- San Diego. The third in April is TBD.
Other junior/cadet/Div II/III/Youth NACs are still TBD, with a possible chance of revisiting Saratoga Springs in January (ugh!) for the Youth NAC.
Div I & Summer Nationals will be in Austin again. With the Div I all being conducted on the first weekend. -

Yeah, but is OH in December really that much of an improvement over IN in Jan.?
I don't know why they just can't hold tournaments in places that are easy to get to, or to places that people actually want to go.
Palm springs, Ft. Lauderdale, New York, San Francisco have been the best tournament sites. And now we don't even have Palm Springs. We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean

I was in OH for the JOs this past February. It wasn't bad at all. Of course, I was just looking forward to the following weekend, fencing in Honolulu Hawaii. Now, that was nice!
I don't know if New York has good tournament sites, and there hasn't been an NAC in San Francisco since around 1994 at USF. On the other hand, we do have San Diego in January (and for some of us, that's two weeks after Las Vegas in January).
Speaking of the Las Vegas event in January, the Duel In The Desert, it will be improved over what is already as improved as can be. First off, it will be held at the Riviera, a pretty nice place. Second, there is a very strong possibility that ESPN will televise the money "gala" bouts.

Mmmm.
What am I missing? When I call up that page (linked above), all I get is this:
"Here are the proposed dates (mostly firm) and possible locations (not firm)
for the 2002-2003 USFA National Schedule."
((empty space))
"As far as I know, the dates are pretty firm, and the given locations are
correct, except for the question-marked locations, which are candidates."

Array What are the dates for the Duel in the Desert next year? I might be able to fit it in and I have a free ticket (let myself get bumped) which I won't have to use for Palm Springs this year because Columbus is cheap from Philadelphia. Dunno. I manually created the table (using the standard <table><tr><td> hypertext tags). I can't imagine why you can't read it with even the most basic browser. -

Jan 3-4-5, 2003. It's the same weekend as the Youth NAC in gawd-knows-where. -
Weird. It was a problem with my software at the office. I can see the info clearly at home. -

Edew -- will each weapon still be a two-day event at the Duel in the Desert? I had a great time last year, but I'd like to be able to fence foil and epee. I was just curious. Also, a change of venue would be nice. The last two years I was there, the weather was great, but the Trop's outdoor pool was always closed. I thought pool season was all year round in Vegas. All in all, though, the Duel in the Desert is the best run event around and makes for an entertaining way to merge fencing and a vacation.
I've heard conflicting stories on where Summer Nationals are going to be. Some say Lousville, some say Austin.
It's my understanding that the Columbus, OH NAC is basically settled. -

Not clear what Evan Ranes plans to do this upcoming DITD. I do expect that he wants to have the gala finals show off all events, and have the gala finals all on Saturday evening. Given those constraints, I can't see how both an open foil and open epee can be conducted on different days and have them finish before the 7:00PM curtain call.
So, I'd imagine he'll run most events on two days. I'd imagine the sabre in both open and women's would be run on the second day.
The event this coming year will be at the Riviera, which is substantially better than the Tropicana. (Don't know if the Riviera can top the mirrored ceilings, though.)
The event venue will be larger and hopefully more referees. I have asked him that he should consider having the referees ref the pool bouts as well, since a matter of a few indicator points can throw a person off from 5th place to maybe 10th place. It's a big deal. Crappy refereeing during the pools can hurt you real bad. Crappy refereeing during the DEs (unless it's egregiously bad) won't hurt as much, as you can recoup one or two bad calls. Your victory in the DEs don't depend on indicators, whereas your position after the pools do depend on indicators.
