New fencing game

Thanks to the miracle of modern cheap wireless tech, some are proposing a new fencing game. Something more like a rapier duel in the open, as opposed to with the present narrow-strip fencing that simulate an alley fight or a charge on horseback.

From what I understand, the fencing area is a circle with a radius of 4 or 5 metres (because the typical fencer + arm + blade is close to 3 metres long). In the center of this circle is a smaller circle with a radius of 1 metre, where the fencers start facing each other.

Points are sort of like old epee -- start with 15, and lose one each time you're struck. No formal ROW, and a double-touch scores against both fencers. Lose a point if you place a foot outside the circle.

Weapon is a fencing sabre, with the same target area.

I dunno, sounds kinda fun to me. Anyone else heard something like that?

Never heard of it, but that sounds fun. Probably be able to attract quite some noobs into trying it.

I don't know about doing it electrically, but my brother and I used to fence/joust on bikes when we were kids. Sabre for cavalry charge, and Epee for jousting. Sabre on bike was lots of fun. Epee on bike HURT!!!!

Sounds interesting. Who's proposing this?

In any case, I wish they'd just bring back singlestick.

Either that, or totally re-vamp saber fencing, so as to remove the bastardized elements and make use of a more substantial weapon.
