| Yo Whats up? Names Jack. I've been fencing for a year and a half down at Pasadena City College. I fence foil and saber, and I'm currently trying out the Italian foil. I first stumbled across this site by using google (I was feeling lucky), and have been browsing through it off and on for awhile now. Figured I may as well sign up and say howdy. |

| First off, hi.
Second, what do you mean by an Italian foil? Do you mean a classic Italian grip? Because those aren't legal. I'm trying to think what else you could mean by Italian foil. Please elaborate.

| Hello. And yes, I mean italian grip. As far as I can tell, they're legal. I haven't seen anything in the rules against them. I even found this little tidbit in the USFA FAQ page:
"The use of a strap to assist in holding the weapon has caused some confusion. If one has a legal orthopedic grip (including the Italian grip), one may use a strap. If one is using a French grip, one may not use a strap. (The applicable rules follow.) The basic concept here is that if one wishes to have a weapon that will allow for longer reach (French handle), one may not have a device (strap) that will give the user added strength."
So I think its safe to assume they're legal. If you have anything that says otherwise, please enlighten me.

| Russian or Zickovick B grips.
My fencing instructor warned us about what the Italian foil will do to your ligaments in your hand over time.

I use a belgian grip, but the vasy majority of American fencers use visconti grips.

| Hi and welcome aboard, JackOfHearts!
I've recently switched from the French grip to a Visconti.
