Yankees vs. Red Sox...didn't think the rivalry was done, did you?

This weekend is the whole season...the only games that matter. Who's watching? I'll be in front of my TV, having a heart attack the whole way.

Random trivia tidbit- this Sunday, the series finale, is the 27th anniversary of Bucky Dent's fateful homer. If you don't know what this is about, you don't need to know.

Nah, not quite enough excitement. I have a can of paint here, I'm going to spread it around a bit and watch it dry...

dude, i'm so frickin' sick of this yankees/red sox crap!! 90% of the baseball world pretty much don't care at all yet espn et al keep sticking this crap down our throats; its either this or showing every barry bonds at bats. if you're not fans of either team then you pretty much don't care. WE DON'T CARE!!!!!

i think i'll be watching paint dry myself..

So come online and complain about how you don't care in a topic made for discussion. Good plan.

This is obviously a topic for people who want to talk about the games, not people who want to come and complain about how they don't care. That should be clear to even you, Dote.

Now I know there are plenty of you out there who ARE watching, so does anybody want to talk about baseball, or just sit and make "witty" comments about paint drying?

I've been a Sox fan for most of my life. We're bred to despise the Yankees. It's either in the blood or in the water, I'm not sure, but if you're not a Sox fan, you're a social pariah. And there has always been something so endearing about the Sox - no matter how well it looked like they were doing, and how close they came to pulling it off, they invariably choked in the end. The eternal underdogs.

Much as I would LOVE to see the boys pull it off again, that life-long Sox fan in me expects - way down deep - that they'll choke and drop to the Yankees. That's what we were raised to expect, and one fluke year doesn't wash away a curse or a lifetime of quiet acceptance of the inevitable. The most blasphemous thing of all? I sort of miss the losers. I pull for underdogs, not untouchable winners. Oh, I'd be thrilled if they beat the Yankees, but life returns to normal if they fall.

    Let the stoning begin.

I would be a huge Red Sox fan, but I don't really watch baseball.

By the way, I think that the intensity of their games is the only thing that makes baseball interesting at all. I live in bewteen Boston and New York, so there's a good mix of fans, and people are almost violent about the games, which is fun.

Alright, here's a few things about this series that I want to complain/ask about:

1)I understand that Schilling vs. Johnson makes more sense for strategy, but it would look great if it were the last game of the season.
2)I actually hate both teams here. My favorite teams are the Mets and Braves (yes, I know, oxymoron, so sue me...). However, I would love to see the Sox be put back into place, it's very annoying to see all these Sox fans saying that they're better than the Yankees.... look at a history book people... .
3)It's a shame because whoever makes it to the playoffs is going to get whooped by either the White Sox, Indians, or Angels as they are all better than the Yankees and Red Sox.
4)Who won last night? I was fencing.

Edit: it's now official. Yankees win division. Woe to all Sox fans .

Really, it's only the Sox fans that go really crazy. They care way too much about sports. New Yorkers feel content that they are best in everything not related to sports, so it's not as bad when the home team loses. It's just a nice bonus to have some of the best teams in the country in every sport .

Maybe in New York. Around here, both are pretty insane.

This is because there is nothing to be proud of except teams that aren't from your state. It's really funny to watch all the New England states root for the Boston teams just because they're too small to have their own team. Very similar to New Jersey being obsessed with the Yankees.

On a side note, I can't stand anybody who thinks that they are a New Yorker when they come from New Jersey/Connecticut.

I move that we do two things- declare the five boroughs their own separate state, and kick Long Island somewhere into the Atlantic.

We don't root for the Boston teams. It's split pretty much down the middle...

    Haha, I can't either.
