| I just joined fencing.net. FYI, Delmar Calvert is still coaching 2 or 3 days a week in Portland, Oregon at Fencing Center Salle Trois Armes. Most of the younger fencers in the northwest weren't aware of his record, knowledge, and talent, so I had to start another club here to make him available for new fencers who are willing to start from nothing, but who know quality, efficient, and effective coaching when they see it. Unlike many coaches who are rigid in what they teach, Maitre Calvert still (at almost 83 and still very active) shares my opinion that a "classical" foundation is just the starting point for personal creativity and innovation. It's also reassuring to work with a coach who, in his 80's, is more cognitively flexible and open to new approaches than many who are 1/2 his age.
Wordy response - sorry. But it's nice to hear from someone who might understand why I bamboozled him into coming out of his (attempted) retirement here.
