Array I don't think it matters if we have the most money or not. We have the most firepower and might makes right. -

Ah, old testament christian values; what a boon to the morally challenged. Might doesn't make friends, that's for sure. You're so damn powerful, you're scared sh*tless that the rest of the world is gonna come and get you. Keep it up, and you'll make yourselves prisoners inside your own borders.
That might actually be a part of the problem; it's such a long way to the rest of the world, and the america is so damn big, there's little incentive for most americans to go there. You know how they say that "travel broadens the mind"? You should get out more.
In terms of money, China's going to have a lot more economic clout than you in a few years; then what will you do?
Tell me, though; in your personal relationships, I assume you don't just take what you want from anyone weaker than yourself - we've never met, but I'd hope this is still a safe assumption. And I assume that it's not just because that person may call a cop who's - collectively at least - bigger and tougher than you and with more firepower. I assume that you, like most reasonably moral people, have been brought up to believe that the social rules we live by mostly make sense and that beating up on others is just plain wrong, ja?
So how do you justify those actions in a government that you [at least believe] you chose and control? It seems as a general rule that the bigger the organization is, the lower the moral standards are. Maybe it makes it easier to accept the power without accepting the responsibility. You do almost have a point. Why is God punishing America? Every country has homers, liberals, abortion, communists, and blasphemers. But only the US of A has liberal activist judges. Think about it. -

Nor is it all about natural resources---those are only part of the equation. The relevant measures would be GDP or national wealth...or gross national income is sometimes used: http://www.finfacts.com/biz10/global...epercapita.htm
Note that Bahrain is not anywhere near the top of the list. Neither is the EU.
BTW, those who think that (a) budget deficits are horribly dangerous and that (b) China is going to bury us economically sometime soon, might read this: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine...8/b3781117.htm
