Turning an LP Bayonet Foil socket into a saber socket?

I do very little with saber as a general rule. I am building one for a friend who only uses LP bayonet sockets. I knew I had one on hand so did not order one, but forgot that it would need to be shorted to use with saber. Does anyone know of a quick/easy/simple/durable way of turning an LP bayonet foil socket into a saber socket? I would just order a new one, but he need this weapon for a comp this coming weekend and I doubt that it would arrive in time.

Thanks all!

Take a bit of wire (pretty much anything will do, generally a bit of wire clipped off the end when rewiring foils/epees is something sitting around in an armory area), make sure any insulation is gone, attach it to the screw post, as you would when wiring a foil, take the rest and wrap it around the metal bracket of the socket, jamming as much of it as possible inbetween the bracket and the plastic bit, solder the wraps of wire where they cross the bracket below the plastic bit (so on the opposite side of the bracket from the plastic).

Alternative that I haven't been as successful with is to run the wire from the screw post and have it pressed between the bracket and the guard (basically the type of pinching that you try to avoid with epees and foils). Problem that I've had with that method is the wire either pulling out, snapping off, or both.

If you get a Sabre from American, here is their method. First, take off the screw. Break off the plastic that held the screw. Fold over the remaining metal tab to push between the base and the bracket.

Thanks guys! I was not as clear as I should have been in my first post as I was running out the door when I wrote it. I was looking for a way to do it internally. I have seen it done as Oiuyt mentions, and some saber bayonet sockets from absolute I stock have a version of this, but I was hoping there was a way to do it all inside the socket like DHC describes. Thanks again,
James
