Array Interesting injuries.... Ok, I'm starting this thread because I'm interested in graphing the various injuries that afflict or have afllicted fencers. Please check if the injury is chronic or repeat/recurring. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Serious or minor injuries?
Are you looking for everyday blisters, or the rare broken bones and impalements that occur every once in a long while?
Oh, I responded too soon...poll...I see, never mind.

Array Pulled lower back (forgot the actual muscle as I never went to a doctor)
Pulled hamstring
Joint problems in the hip, shoulder, and knees
Strained foot muscle (whatever you call that muscle on the top of your foot)
Various ankle problems
And recently? I've been having a problem with my left side of my left calf. It's tense no matter what I do and I'm afraid that a strain isn't far off. "What, really? I thought that song was just about a dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee."

Array wow... DFP, I'm amazed at how many of these you've had. I have some other stuff that isn't said here, but it's just nagging stuff, not really injuries. "What, really? I thought that song was just about a dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee."

Array What about sprains, etc of the ankle? That seems to be my chronic problem.

I'm a walking chronic hurt ball. The biggest ones are the Adductor/Hamstring ones, because you basically have to take some time off from fencing to fix the problems, given that you hurt yourself a little more every time you lunge. I really should take october off and do some PT. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Try getting one of those monster braces that you lace up. Wait till it feels good, and over the course of the next month, gradually loosen the laces until you can do fine without one. Its how I fixed my problem anyway... "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Q: Worst time to get an injury? "What, really? I thought that song was just about a dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee."

Array Are these injuries inflicted by fencing, or injuries that occur outside of fencing that affect fencing? -

At the time, it never occured to me that some of the injuries I sustained would be with me for the REST of my life, and that I would have to give up the sports I loved because of them.
Go to physio, you have one body, and replacement parts are hard to come by, so take care of it.... a good physio will not only help you heal, but prevent further injuries. Beer, it's whats for dinner! ~ a young snowboarding Canadian The meek don't want it! ~ sticker on a rock band's guitar -

Array I have never had any injuries that were not concussive or sharp in origin. I have had 1 concussion, 2 biking accidents that left scars, and a close encounter with a weed-trimmer that did the same. No injuries from 5 years of running, none from 4 years of fencing (despite a blade that peirced my jacket but not me), none from 10 years of backpacking. I'm obviously just awsome.
