Array Fencing.net is a community... Gav,
Fencing.net is a community, you cant just go closing threads because you feel like it. People are actually having fun with the threads, frickin kill joy. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -

Array No one said this was a democracy. You want to pick a fight with me? Feel free to PM me. Remember that I don't often pull threads. And don't bait me. -
yeah a fencing community - the fun bits of the the forum should be just that fun; with a minimum of baiting and trolling. There are plenty of almost unmoderated boards on the net this doesn't need to be another.
... and if you think these boards are tightly controlled have a look at the UK fencing forum. -

Array You sound like you're on a little bit of a power trip with your moderator priviledges. I don't think I'll PM you, I'll keep it out in the open. While I do agree that we need moderation, closing a thread for saying that reverse lunge rules is a pretty vulgar display of your power. Originally Posted by Gav No one said this was a democracy. Array Even a community needs adult supervision. I've belonged to other forums that went down the tubes when there was nobody around to moderate and apply common sense to keep everybody in the playground playing nicely with one another.
I say "kudos" to Gav and the other moderators that keep this forum a fun and safe place to play. One test is worth a thousand opinions. Array Just evaluate the reverselunge rules thread, and tell me that a certain scotsman isnt thin skinned. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! I say "kudos" to Gav and the other moderators that keep this forum a fun and safe place to play. I agree. Check out some of the other forums out there - this is definitely one of the best, I think the flavour of management and moderation here is a big part of that. Array If you want an unmoderated forum to run free in head on over to fencing sucks. Fleche!! Fleche for fantasy.

Array I support the ability for moderators to close threads that are abusive, overly divisive, and just plain WRONG from any moral or ethical standpoint. I don't believe that Gav has ever closed one that didn't deserve closing, nor do I think he takes his responsibilites lightly. (I wish he'd user that power to close some more - like that obnoxious Bimbo Battle thread... 'int 'int...)
You go, Gav!
DFP, I agree - this *is* a community of sorts. But the viability of a community of any kind relies on its members extending some modicum of repect towards one another. We don't always have to agree with each other, but we do have to treat each other with civility. If we don't, who's going to want to hang out here?
Meanwhile, I'd like to point out the Ignore function, freely available to us all. Why, I had a certain person on the list, and never felt bothered at all! Finally removed him/her/it from the list, and look what ugliness surfaced. I think I'll go back to Ignoring again. It was working out nicely. -

Array It's always been the case that threads about particular members of the forum, good or bad, are closed. It's not a power trip, it's a consistency in the enforcement of the rules of the board. Thru the darkness of Future Past

I think you're seriously over reacting as well as showing your age DFP. Relax! Have a good time, but not at the expense of others.... -
Personally, I don't see why RL is really allowed here at all, because most of the time he just makes obnoxious comments. Probably half of the closed threads on this forum were caused by him...certainly since I've been here. But that's not my decision, and if Gav and Craig want to be forgiving, good for them. And Gav does take quite a bit of crap for someone who doesn't have to, maybe not in the RL rules thread, but in others...
Yes, this is a community, but it's a pretty decent community, which is almost unique on the internet. What good could a thread about RL do? First, there have been plenty of threads about him, most started by himself. Second, odds are pretty good that those who don't think that RL is funny are sure to chime in eventually, i.e., flaming. And third, RL himself hasn't been known to contribute to threads all too often, and since it was about him, it'd be surprising if he didn't say anything about it. -

Array "Women want what they can't have (I am one, so I know)."
Is it just me or does this sound like the "recipe" for eternal disappointment? I'll never understand women . . . -
