| Gav The MOralist. Could we have a little less conservatism? It's such a turn off to read his "CLOSED POSTS" and his little X's all over the place, unless the paragraph is TOTALLY off the wall with whatevers; can we just leave the stuff up?
Read Andre Gide Gav and step out of your little stuffy box.

Where's my Umbrella?Lalalalala....... | All over the place? What are you smoking? He's closed like 3 threads this month. And this is an unusually high number.
Those stickies are from like 2003

Oh, you mean those stickies he posted.
(André Gide might be enlightening reading, if you're into vaseline and poetic crime. I doubt Gav is, though... )

| As much as it pains me, I've got to agree with Mrbiggs and Zilverzmurfen here.
For what it's worth, I think Gav's doing a great job of a thankless, sometimes unpleasant job.

| Ahh he was a Nobel Laureate: http://www.andregide.org/gidebio.html
Thanks for recommendation. If I get time I'll check him out. I'm looking for suggestions on things to read.

| If you like seaspray and broadsides, you may be interested in "To Rule the Waves" by Arthur Herman, or the Aubrey series of novels by Patrick O'Brian... he wrote the series of books that the Master and Commander movie was based on. Lots of books in that series, too...

Why they couldn't just start with M&C and make it into a movie -- and have a ready-made franchise if/when it did well -- rather than take Far Side of the World, muck up bits of it, mush in parts of several other books in the series, and turn it into a movie noted for it's lack of character development (impressive given how noted for the same O'Brien's books are...). :eyeroll:
I was NOT happy when I saw that movie, especially given how much I love the books.
Currently in the process of (finally!) going through the Hornblower books.

-B | Oh, the Hornblower books are excellent, too - I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
