No real brand -- went to a "White Box" customer manufacturer which allows you to specify everything from the make & model of the mother board to the size, number, and make of individual memory chips and cards. (The white box manufacturer was www.monarchcomputers.com). Got a nice case too... Cost was pretty reasonable -- including burn in and delivery cost.

3.0 GHZ Intel Pentium CPU

i built it myself

2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64

oh, and sorry, but, uh, AMD speeds and Intel speeds don't necessarily compare directly. at all. a 2.0 and a 2.0 might be very different speeds. very very different.

Tcs09 - That is an excellent point that MP has there... how do you intend to take those core speed differences into account, statistically? What about 32b vs. 64b CPUs?

Oh, and MP - I envy you your computer. What do you think of AMD's 64's?

i am desperately in love with my computer, which actually needs another stick of RAM and a soundcard... (half the ram i originally planned is in there, and onboard sound....) (my graphics card (all-in-wonder 9600 is what makes me really ecstatic.... i get to watch tv in my room without having to also put a tv somewhere...))

i can't get the cool-n-quiet software to work right......... not that i've tried since i first put it together..... and not that it's a big deal..... but it would be nice. Other than that, i love it. then again, the family computer is still a Duron 700..... so this is beyond love.

build my own desktop, which is currently broken due to unknown reasons. older AMD XP 2400+ processor, runs at 1.8ghz.

dell laptop since laptops aren't really buildable yourself. intel mobile pentium 4 at 2.19ghz.

Yeah, anyone who posts the speed without the name of the processor has said nearly nothing about their computer speed...

For me, Dell Pentium4 2.6 ghz

Just to give you as much data as possible, here's the 411 on all of our home and business machines:

Alienware Area 51 Laptop, Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
Compaq Presario Laptop, Athalon 2.0GHz
PowerSpec Desktop, Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
"White box" desktop, Pentium III 1.2 Ghz
"White box" desktop, Celeron 700Ghz
HP Pavillon desktop, Celeron 500Mhz
Custom built Shuttle Desktop (small form factor,) Athalon 1.2 Ghz.

Possible suggestion: would the data be more managable if this were a poll? Maybe, maybe not.

Heh heh. I just retired my Pentium II 350mhz less than a year ago. I'm currently using a 'project' computer running a VIA Eden mini-itx motherboard. I'm scoping out a box that has a motherboard with AGP and PCIe slots as well as controllers for both IDE and SATA2 and the ability to bump the memory clock up and down. I'm going to pop an AMD Sempron in it with hopes that dual-cores will start to drop in a year or so.

EDIT: What is strange is that my computer was pretty hot stuff around the time I started fencing. Strangely enough since I started fencing I haven't had any money to upgrade it, wierd.
