Box Drill? When i learned how to fence, i remember a parry drill known as the "box drill" which was all nine parries in a row. Basically fencer A would attack, fencer B would parry 4, then attack 6, at which point fencer A continues the drill by parrying 6 and riposting in 7, and this continues on untill all the parries were gone through. So my question is, what is the progression of these parries? am i remembering this correctly or am i missing something? -

Array I have no idea, but it sounds like a great exercise... do you start slow and build up speed? Pound for pound, the amoeba is the most vicious animal on earth. -
Iv'e used it in teaching sabre. Maybe I can pump it up for foil. I just haven't used it in a while -

Array it does sound like an interesting drill. Ive never done it myself but Iwill bring it up in drills today. -

Array Called it the Iron Triangle back when I was learning sabre. Only used 3, 4 and 5...and it was STILL so difficult that one or both partners would soon get confused as to which was supposed to go where next. Probably be easier nowadays, given an experienced partner... -
well, i was thinking about it again, this is what i've got so far:
Fencer A Fencer B
Attack 4 Parry 4, Attack 6
Parry 6, Attack 7 Parry 7, Attack 8
Parry 8, Attack 3 Parry 3, Attack 5
Parry 5, Attack 1 Parry 1, Finish
The key is to constantly be switching from an inside to an outside line. I'm sure you could work parry 2 in there if you felt like it.
