    10 Bonehead quotes from Katrina

    Read them and weep:

    based on http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/c...naquotes_4.htm
    1. "What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle) – this is working very well for them." –Former First Lady Barbara Bush, on the Hurricane flood evacuees in the Houston Astrodome, Sept. 5, 2005
      http://politicalhumor.about.com/gi/d...d%3D1001054719
Sure if you compare it to losing their homes, families, jobs, and in many cases their entire lives, the free hot chocolate and a couple of scratchy wool blankets on smelly musty army cots must seem like heaven.
    2. "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." –President Bush, to FEMA director Michael Brown, while touring Hurricane-ravaged Mississippi, Sept. 2, 2005
but...you're fired! Well, not fired, that would extend the intimation of culpability that we don't want until the investigation that I am personally leading completely exonerates me and lands the whole heap in your lap. THEN you're fired.
    3. "Well, I think if you look at what actually happened, I remember on Tuesday morning picking up newspapers and I saw headlines, 'New Orleans Dodged the Bullet.' Because if you recall, the storm moved to the east and then continued on and appeared to pass with considerable damage but nothing worse." –Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, blaming media coverage for his failings, "Meet the Press," Sept. 4, 2005
      http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9179790/
Hey Chertoff -- How about basing your decisions on whatever weather service you fed guys are supposed to use instead of your daily paper? Is that too much to ask? Couldn't you have an aide phone you the info if you were to busy too do it yourself?
    4. "I mean, you have people who don't heed those warnings and then put people at risk as a result of not heeding those warnings. There may be a need to look at tougher penalties on those who decide to ride it out and understand that there are consequences to not leaving.” –Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), Sept. 6, 2005
      http://www.timesleader.com/mld/times...s/12574597.htm
Ummmm...Let's see, they've lost their homes, belongings, family. I know, let's lop off a foot, that'll remind them to leave next time!
    5. 'What didn't go right?' President Bush as quoted by Rep Pelosi when she related that she had urged Bush at the White House on Tuesday to fire Michael Brown.
      http://www.usatoday.com/news/washing...-katrina_x.htm
Well, the last Presidential election apparently...
    6. "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?" –House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-TX), to three young hurricane evacuees from New Orleans at the Astrodome in Houston.
      http://blogs.chron.com/domeblog/arch...to_evacue.html
The boys responded, "Wheeeeee! It sure is Mr. DeLay!!! I think my mommie's dead! Wheeeeeeeee! Can I have another bowl of oatmeal! Wheeeee!
    7. We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did." Congressman Richard Baker (R-LA), September 8, 2005.
      http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...090901930.html
and as an added bonus, we got rid of all them poor people!
      His website:
      http://www.richardhbaker.com/
Notice the complete lack of reference to the NO disaster. Way to represent Representative Baker.
    8. "Louisiana is a city that is largely under water." –Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, news conference, Sept. 3, 2005
      http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6210240/

Hmmm...no wonder FEMA has twice mixed up Charleston, SC and Charleston, WV http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnews/20050...ws/lotsofblame
    9. "It's totally wiped out. ... It's devastating, it's got to be doubly devastating on the ground." –President Bush, turning to his aides while surveying Hurricane Katrina flood damage from Air Force One, Aug. 31, 2005
      http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/08/31/bush.katrina.ap/
Glad I'm up here holding up vital air traffic with these photo ops and not ridin' in my truck down there. I heard they got looters shooting people and stuff. Besides, Unka Dickey won't let me go outside without him holding my hand.
    10. "A young man walks through chest deep flood water after looting a grocery store in New Orleans on Tuesday." (AP/Dave Martin)

"Two [white] residents wade through chest-deep water after finding bread and soda from a local grocery store after Hurricane Katrina came through the area in New Orleans..." –captions at Yahoo News, Aug. 30, 2005

I heard quite a few from the Mayor and Gov that didnt seem to make this list. A couple of real gems with Tim Russert this weekend. Perhaps its because they dont seem to have the pre-requsite "R" next to their name or correct skin tone to make this list.

    Bias? Here?

these two video clips do a pretty good job with my favorite quotes:

    http://www.thatvideosite.com/view/670.html
    http://www.thatvideosite.com/view/658.html

shows you that they were actually said. first one happened in a news conference on september 8th, second one was from the show that aired the night of the 8th.

fair warning, the page that they're hosted on occasionally has some not safe for work ads. not in picture-form, but text based.

    "There he goes again" department

Another rant from that wack job Robertson:

ROBERTSON BLAMES HURRICANE ON CHOICE OF ELLEN DEGENERES TO HOST EMMYS

    Lesbian is New Orleans native

Hollywood, CA - Pat Robertson on Sunday said that Hurricane Katrina was God's way of expressing its anger at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its selection of Ellen Degeneres to host this year's Emmy Awards. "By choosing an avowed lesbian for this national event, these Hollywood elites have clearly invited God's wrath, "Robertson said on "The 700 Club" on Sunday. "Is it any surprise that the Almighty chose to strike at Miss Degeneres' hometown?"

Robertson also noted that the last time Degeneres hosted the Emmys, in 2001, the September 11 terrorism attacks took place shortly before the ceremony.

Wow. It's interesting that some of these extremist "activists" can tack a Rev. to the front of their names and get away with saying just about anything. But, it good to know most sane people dont pay their inflamatory rhetoric any attention.

For example, You got Pat Robertson, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Lois Farakan, to name a few. Anyone think of any others?

Lois? Did Farrakhan get a sex change?

You really can't say that they just tacked "Rev" in front of their names - they went to seminaries of some sort, as far as I know. Not fair to lump all of 'em together: you might not like Jackson's politics but he's not a wacko or hate monger like Robertson or Farrakhan. Even the Reverand Al comes off as a model of sanity and decorum next to Pat and Louis, and when he's not promoting himself is articulate and smart (to my surprise)

Which reminds me - how come we haven't heard from those loons Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Bakker and Don Larson recently?

Yes, but the sad fact is that there are people out there (with smaller profiles than Robertson) that are, in fact, saying similar things.

Another one quick with the spell check. Good job! Thanks for the help.

There is no a set standard, or board exams to pass, or professional degrees required for calling yourself Reverand. C'mon, Al "Twana Brawley" Sharpton, legtimate man of the cloth after years in the seminary? Please.

Jackson is indeed a hate monger and race baiter who uses race to extort money from businesses he deems are "racist".

Rev Al is looking pretty civil compared to the disgusting antics of Jackson, or the militant views of Farrakhan.

Those other loons are still out there. They just have the wrong skin tone and sexual preference to get the media coverage the others do. Unless of course they say some that can be viewed as racist or against gay rights.

The reference to "Lois" was because the idea is funny. I knew you made a typo, which generally is not a big deal. You seem to be a little sense of humor deprived.

Yeah, I know about the Tawana story, and despised Sharpton for years because of it. However, I've also seen him on TV saying responsible and insightful things, which puts him far beyond the ilk of Robertson and Farrakhan. Your characterization of Jesse is a nasty distortion. Yeah, he pumps companies for contributions to his organizations (which puts him squarely in the middle of the rest of this lot) but to call him a hate-monger is a falsehood and a smear. I am not a fan of him at all, but you make a vile distortion.

The fact that normal people all despise Farrakhan puts the lie to your equally absurd claim that you have to be white to be labeled a loony religious nut. Of course, even he doesn't do the damage that a Robertson does, with his TV shows and enormous financial base. Pick your targets relative to the damage they cause.

Your right-wing apologetics are extremely predictable, by the way. Do try to surprise us sometime

Perhaps on the day that "you" shrill left-wing sneerers surprise US, we'll give it a go...

BTW, on #5 and #7, hearsay from Pelosi and a blogger probably aren't terribly convincing sources. Not that that will ever stop the blamers from giving credence to them, of course.

I'm going to point out that this is all moderately irrelivant. The current administration has survived worse accusations, and they're done in 3 years when no one will remeber this, anyway.

I do love the knee-jerk defensive actions of those one the right defending what happened. "You guys screwed up, too! Look, look!", isn't really a refutation. It seems we live in a day and age where national debate has turned into childish finger pointing. O tempora! O mores!

All I'm gonna say is that if politicians of all affiliations keep using disasters to create political capital, I'm becoming a hermit. Fencing bouts by appointment only...

Heh. I think you underestimate the human ability to nurse a grudge.

The left will be inveighing against Bush and his every action for decades. Count on it. Yes, it will all signify nothing. But no one is going to let that stop them having a good pet when the occasion presents itself. The gods know it hasn't stopped the right from cursing Clinton, and how many years has HE been out of office?

They're cursing Clinton because his wife's about to run for prez. The popular memory is a short one.

And so, I happen to agree with the Inq - probably much to his chagrin.

BTW, Inq: I could say how much I dislike many policies of the current Swedish labor party govt, but since you don´t hear about them in your media, it would be useless - you have nothing to refer to.

So you think Pat Robertson does more "damage" that Farrakhan? Hmm. Please explain and use your definition of damage. I challenge you to a duel of inflamatory quotes! Farrakhan has a nuclear arsenal.

Oh, and only real ones this time. I too was fooled by the original post .

See the link to the URL on snopes and you'll see how Robertson made other wacky remarks that made the recent satire plausible. As far as other damage, how about his recent call to assassinate the head of state of another country? He's definitely a loose cannon with a wide reach. He's also a multi-millionaire with media access (700 club) that must make Farrakhan gasp with envy. Farrakhan, on the other hand is a loon with disgusting comments but very little following, more in the David Duke level of influence.

Now, go ahead and back up your claim that Jackson is a "hate monger"...
