    askFRED.net public beta

    Hi Everyone-

I have some new features developed for askFRED.net, the tournament website. I've posted a public beta of the new version, in hopes that I might ask folks to try out the new stuff and see if it all works.

    http://beta.askfred.net

    New things:

    For Tournament Organizers:

    Partial EnGarde integration
Preregistration downloads for EG v8.12 implemented. This in particular would be awesome if people would test. Are all the fields coming through? Are club, division, and section affiliations coming through in the way you expect? I don't use EnGarde myself, so i'm not totally sure how EG users expect things.
Results uploads to EnGarde are not yet implemented.

    Fees for custom prereg parameters
A much requested feature. Tournament organizers who use FRED to accept fees through FRED can now add fees to the custom prereg fields on the preregistration form. Great for pre-ordering t-shirts, taking reservations for gala events, and any other fee outside of registration fees.

    Custom Dropdown Lists
(Relates to above) New custom prereg parameter: dropdown lists, including fees for each choice on the list. NOTE: there is a specific syntax for entering the choices. I'm particularly interested to hear what people think of that process. Too complicated? Syntax requirement unclear?

    For Everyone:

    RSS Feeds
A much requested feature: RSS 2.0 feeds of upcoming events, recently posted results, and past events. Separate feeds for the whole FRED system, and one each for each USFA section.
    (Link on the left)

    Round results include seeding lists
Results uploaded from Fencing Time now show initial seeding, and seeding after the pools along with round results.

    More
-- Round results allow you to highlight any given fencer by clicking the icon next to the fencer in the final results list.
-- Club abbreviations mouseover "tooltip" shows full name, division
-- (Lots of other small stuff)

If anyone wants to check this stuff out and let me know what you think, that would be great. To test Bout Committee features, current BC account holders can log in with their current username & password. Non- BC users can log in with demo/demo to test BC features.

    Thanks everyone!

One thing I saw initially is the loss of the quick link buttons to check the prereg list/more information. Is it necessary to drop those?

I haven't purposefully removed any links. Which links on which page are we talking about?

Well, I was talking about the little links next to the side of the tournament name, where you can skip directly to the different pages dealing with that tournament. However, they are there now, so maybe I was just seeing things (or rather not seeing them)

I tried to register (about time, too) so I can add NJ division events, and got

    "I'm sorry:

    * There was an error processing your request. Please accept our apologies while you notify the admin. Thank-you!"

I guess that's a _good_ think for beta-testing, eh? I hope the diagnostic note the admin gets isn't useless.

Happily, the error log had what I needed to figure that one out. Pretty sure I got it. Just a configuration issue with the beta related to sending emails.

    BUT:
Don't bother registering for membership on the beta. That won't register you on the live site (two separate sites with two separate databases). Just log in with u/p demo/demo if you want to test drive the beta. Then register for an account on the live site.

    cool?

Cool - glad you were able to fix it, and thanks for the tip about where to sign up.
