| So it's ten days, minus a half day for sightseeing, and a day that you can flog off if you don't want to run, and a tournament.
Sounds like nine days of doubles to me .
I just don't think I could get the time off work....
(And I can come up with many additional excuses if need be... )

| Many....
Plus, being around so many f.net women would probably give me a heart attack!
Maybe Inq can come in my stead.

Maybe Inq can come in my stead. | Perhaps he could. But he would probably get a heart attack too -- from all the colored sock, shoes and go deaf from all the shouting.
So we were just asking you 'cause we know you're tougher guy than him...or perhaps not..?

| Usually we have a crescent moon under the camp...
Shall I say we also have f.net men? Like, in 2004 Onesandzeros, in 2005 DangerMouse (he's likely to come also this year) and delft (maybe also him), this year of whom I surely know is I_luv_saber (hmm... why so...? ) |

| There will be a crescent moon this year, too--I checked.
No dancing by the light of the moon, I guess.

| Oh, you can still dance... it just won't be quite so bright. But being a sabre fencer, you're probably used to being around things that aren't too... bright.
Oh, wait, this isn't the Epeeists Only thread, is it? My bad.

| Oh, but that would deny me any sense of free will. And I most assuredly believe in free will.
Speaking of that, I just finished the latest in Jack Whyte's "Camulod Chronicles". I love that series (though the dialogue is much too artificial and it got off to a slow start in the first books). The teachings of Pelagius come up again, though not nearly in as much detail as they had in the earlier books in the series. The more I read about him, the more I like this Pelagius guy. Has anybody read any of his teachings? (Besides maybe Inq, who was there...)

I would think this is a case of outside influence coinciding with your (conscious or subconscious) free will
I like your new sig, btw. Got their "Meetings" poster in my office. Can tell immediately who just looks at the picture and who actually reads what it says

I love that one. (I initially mistyped that as "I live that one" which would also be accurate.)

| Pelagius No original sin, and radical free will--my kind of guy...
But this is way to heavy for a cocktail party--I'm going fencing, and then I'll have a beer...

It's this sort of discussion EXACTLY that I get into at cocktail parties. Give me a couple of drinks and I get all sorts of philosophical on you. Give me a few more, then I lose some of that free will. Heh heh heh.
Hmm... maybe that's why I don't get invited to too many cocktail parties anymore...

Pelagius dealt with the concept of original sin, which Jack Whyte kind of deals with in his books when the Merlin character ruminates on his cousin Britannicus' character. Can't wait for the next installment, but some of the more recent ones tend to be a Rashomon-esque exercise (same story, different viewpoint), which gets annoying because you are compelled to go back to the earlier books to figure out if the facts are accurate. Try this webpage for a start on the Pelagian heresy http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11604a.htm. |

Alas, being a reputable scientist, I don't get invited to those any more either

Love the Merlyn character. Leprosy, what fun! However... the most nitpicky thing from "The Lance Thrower" was the OBVIOUS screw-up where Clothar refers to his cousin Gunthar as his aunt's first-born (hence her issues dealing with the kids' unfitness to rule) not long after casually mentioning that he was the spawn of Ban's earlier coupling, years before meeting his esteemed lady wife. Oh sure, and call the spears "bambu" and "bamboo" in the span of one chapter. God, get your own facts straight within a book, already! Makes me question what the hell else got screwed up in the many books prior to this.
I hate loose ends.
But I do love the details in this series.

I find that the series is so filled with details that I tire after awhile and just go with the flow. Maybe I should retrieve my copies from the person I lent it to and re-read them again. |
