This is the "Cocktail Party Thread". It's supposed to run smoothly. Anyway...

You know what was a GREAT show? The old Batman show. It was one of the best cartoons ever. Along with X-Men and Spiderman. Great Saturday mornings growing up.
"What, really? I thought that song was just about a dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee."

I was never up for the good Saturday morning cartoons. I watched cartoons after school. I was particularly fond of Hey, Dude! and Salute Your Shorts.

Anyone remember that kids' show where at the end, Shazam would be running through the audience?

If I recall, I found "Super Friends" so bad that it caused me to stop watching cartoons - at least until Cartoon Network started coming out with stuff like Dexter's Laboratory.

My son and I watch "Boomerang" all the time. It's an entire channel dedicated completely to the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons....love it.

I don't get how Rock music has been around for several generations now, and yet it is still the music of "youth."

It keeps going through the same cycles of what's rockin' (angry rebellion, poppy catchy tunes, teenyboppin' bands, angry rebellion, etc.). There hasn't been anything really NEW since the late 60s. That's why edgy rock stations can get away with a playlist that's System of a Down, followed by Hendrix, followed by Nirvana, followed by Black Sabbath, followed by Pink Floyd, followed by Nickelback, followed by The Black Crowes, etc. The song remains the same.

When's something NEW going to happen? I'm bored.

You know, I've been looking for a new apartment... I kinda feel like I should start looking for an apartment as soon as I find one... because I'll have found one by the time I need to move

(stares rudely at the non sequitur, then asks fotl...)

How often do you move around here? After coming to the city, I moved from 92nd St to Park Slope to 83rd St to 62nd St to Thompson St in the space of just a few years. Best reason was when the ceiling collapsed in one apartment and the landlord refused to fix it (seriously.) Worst reason was when the landlord sold the apartment to some people and gave me two weeks' notice to move out.

I'm on thompson st now... at my parents at 98 Thompson, between Spring and Prince... how strange is that

On a side note, the seppouku is going great. I've got the frisbee lubed up, and I'm getting super pissed as we speak.

You know another song that's really catchy?

Never heard it, but I have heard quite a few catchy songs.

What makes a song catchy anyway? Even some of the worst songs ever are catchy... so what gives a song catchiness?

Well, a rule of thumb for song catchiness is whether it's been covered by someone else. The more times it's been covered, the more catchy it is.

Ooh, speaking of cover songs, Weird Al is, (uh... what was that phrase?) teh rulez?

Being a closet anarchist, I'm not particularly concerned with "teh rulez" or "the rules" or "who rules."

Weird Al is great. His songs and videos are a parody on the things we sometimes place false importance on. Did you know his hair is a wig?

My brother grows his hair really long and then donates it to a place that makes wigs for cancer patients. I think that's a really wonderful idea! It's called something like Locks of Love. If mine would ever grow fast enough, I'd consider doing it myself. I can barely keep it in a ponytail without getting all unruly.
