Here's how I think it would go.
The Barcelona zoo used to have one glass-fronted enclosure in its primate house which pent an orangutan with a baby chimp.
The orang was trying to sleep. The chimp kept creeping up on it, shoving it hard with both hands, and running away.
Finally the orang feigned sleep until the chimp crept back into range and then snatched it up, pinned it down under one heavy arm, and went back to sleep.
The only differences would be that Nein is a gibbon, not a chimp; I'm a curmudgeon, not an orangutan; and I would have to use my foot, as using my arm would be too easily mistaken for an embrace, which Nein would I suspect misinterpret as affection.
Oh, and I wouldn't dare go to sleep.
