| My mom used to have a saying. (Moms usually do. My sayings to my kids are probably unprintable here.) It went something like this: "Boys don't make passes at girls that wear glasses."
I'm not so sure whether that was true, but my poor older sister had coke-bottle-thick glasses and saw *no* action. I had perfect vision till old age came a-knockin', and I, er, had a pretty active social life. I still don't need glasses except for driving. (And, well, I suppose I ought to wear reading glasses, but I will not go gently into that good night...)
Hey... Come to think of it, when I DID finally get some glasses for driving, my social life went bad.
Course, that might have something to do with having kids... and getting married...

| I am really surprised my eyesight hasn't gone yet... now my hearing.... damn me and my love of music. The funny thing is, it wasn't loud music that made me deaf.
When I was young, 6, 7, 8.... I used to fall asleep to music. Having earbuds in your ears for long periods of time, took out part of my hearing. I quit when I realized what was happening. Everything stayed the same (some hearing loss but no better or worse) until I hit about 40 and now I'm noticing it's getting worse.
I read somewhere that people who live in remote areas away from all the noises we deal with on a daily basis don't lose their hearing as they age. It's not a normal part of aging at all....

There's just something alluring about a girl in a nice pair of glasses...

She doesn't wear glasses, but her eyes have a spark of intelligence, and she's a great conversationalist. And I guess it can be argued that there's something of a social stigma involved in wearing glasses, and that contacts are better. Which is why I guess seeing a girl in glasses gives me the impression that she has some self confidence. Not that that's necessarily the case, but it's an impression I may get when I see a girl wearing glasses.

| Well, I guess there are people who see the frame rather than the picture, too. Never made any difference to me.
And why doesn't the bromide seen to apply to girls in sunglasses?

| Probably because Dorothy Parker, who coined said bromide, either never went to the Algonquin during daylight hours or because the sun wasn’t as bright in the ‘30s because of something to do with the ozone layer being more intact in those days.
Also, come to think of it, she was in pre contact days. If there had been contacts, would she have said “Men seldom make attacks at girls who wear contacks”? No probably not, doesn’t have the proper Parker ring to it, does it? |

| I am a teeny bit short-sighted so I wear glasses for driving so I don't crash, and for using a computer so i don't get a headache. They're comparatively weak though. I've only worn them for the last four years or so, though, and this marks the period of my adult life when I've had a boyfriend more often than not.

| Actually, when was it you could no longer go out and get a bromide? I know it had to be sometime after the early 40’s because in the Caine Mutiny the main character fellow (What was his name again?), goes out and gets a bromide to calm his pulse before his Navy physical, so I know it had to be after that. |

| Wow! Parkerized is such a beautiful blue black. But for my money go with Damascus! The swirls are so gorgeous. Who really cares about the safety factor? You just feel so good with all that beauty. |

| I didn't know that! Man, you learn something every day. Speaking of Burton, did you ever read Robert Burton? Wrote the Anatomy of Melancholy back in the 1600s to cure his own? Amazing book. If you want a rich source of quotes, that's definitely it. It was the quote source for authors for hundreds of years. |

| Ice cream sounds good. There's this place over near where I work that has been making Lavender Honey ice cream this summer. You would love it. Perhaps if we call them, we can get them to send some over. |

| Oh, speaking of sun, I went to a KC and the Sunshine Band concert last night. I think I was the youngest person there...everywhere you looked there were people my parents' age shamelessly snogging. It was kinda weird.
