US News and World Report article

Little human interest piece in US News and World report this week. Nothing ground breaking or technically interesting, but does get the word out.

Fencing is fun, go do it.

"For any age or ability level, fencing's lunges, thrusts, attacks, blocks, and parries provide a cardiovascular workout that builds stamina."

OMG!!!! I didn't realize "blocks" and "parries" were two different things! Now I know what's been going wrong all these years!

    The way I learned it:

parry = blade moves (and the hand stays in place), e.g. foil

block = hand moves (and the blade stays in place, relative to the hand), e.g., sabre

But I doubt the writer was thinking of this.

I suppose you could block a blade with your guard (i.e. by using it as a shield)

I enjoyed the description of the high-level epeeist as "lanky."

No need to nit pick folks, that is some of the best PR we have had in ages.

If you set a man on fire, he is warm for the rest of his life.
