Kids lame sizing

My son graduated from a size 170 foil lame, and now needs somehting bigger. Ulhman's go from 170 kids stepping to 36 womens. Is there anything about the cut or fit that makes a 36 womens unsuitable for 10 year old boy? Some assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Slim.

Well, it should be cut for breasts, which may be a bit awkward for him, depending on how subtle it is.

Take your son's chest measurement ( under the armpits) in inches and add 12....that's the Euro size Uhlmann uses.

The differance in cut is, women need breast darts...boys do not.

Keep in mind that the sizing for jackets and lames is THE SAME...so if you have a men's 42 lame and jacket, the lame will be tight...go one size up for the lame (unless he's really skinny)

Thanks, that's what I did, and he needs a 36. But on both Absolute and BG, an Uhlmann 36 is ONLY in a womens size. Men's start at 44. Allstar is the same. I'll keep checking.

Ok...clarify this for me...

He's outgrown the kids large (the size 170), correct? That's for a chest measurement of 32 inches.

You said he needs a size 36....but that equates to a 24" chest...which is a size 158 (small...actually, that's a couple of inches too big)

Are you saying that his chest measurement is 36 inches?? That would put him at a Euro 48, which is a common size.

Please clarify his actual chest measurement in inches...I can give you an answer then. The additonal numbers on jackets (inches vs sizing) are NOT trhe same on mens vs women's jackets (on men you add 12...on women you only add 4.)

We can custom fit a little larger lame to fit him. my wife and daughter has done this several times.

By the way....be advised that the inch measurement to Euro size is NOT consistent between vendors....the formula I quoted was for stuff from Uhlmann or Fencing Post....Absolute is different (I think it's add 6 instead of 12, but I'm not sure)...you know....'cause standardization would be convenient...

Always verify the sizing formula before you buy.
