    Moving to Albuquerque

Our family is moving to Albuquerque in December. Anyone on this board from the local clubs in that area and what Division are you?

Of course, in any move I have my priorities:

    1. Find a fencing club
    2. Find a school for the kids
    3. Find a house.
I'm a lumberjack and I'm O.K. I sleep all night and I work all day.

I'm not in Albuquerque, but I have lots of friends there (Sandia Labs, mostly). Unfortunately none of them fence, so I can't help you out there.

Hiking around there is very nice so if you like taht you will have a great time. I've hiked all over Sandia Crest and up at Bandelier National Monument near Los Alamos. Every time I visit I go on at least one nice long hike in the mountains. Last time I was there was for a conference and I took a day off to hike. I was able to take a city bus close to the Embudito trailhead (less than a mile walk through a subdivision, I think) and hike up to the South Peak and back down. I miss that. It's so dang flat in Gainesville.

    Albuquerque Fencing

Albuquerque is in the New Mexico Division of the Rocky Mountain Section. There are 4 active clubs in that area, which includes Santa Fe & Los Alamos.

Duke City Fencing coached by Toby Tolley (Albuquerque)
New Mexico Fencing Club coached by (not really sure) (Albuquerque)

New Mexico Fencing Foundation coached by Jamey Odom (Santa Fe & Albuquerque)

There is also Los Alamos Fencing Club in Los Alamos, NM.

All 4 clubs are active in USFA tournaments and seem to work together pretty well. You can get contact information on each from the USFA website listing of clubs in the New Mexico Division.

We see them a lot here in the Texas panhandle (Plains Texas Division).

    Good luck!

The only place to really fencing in Albuquerque is the UNM fencing club and Duke City Fencing. The NMFC (the old Albuquerque club) has merged with Duke City and is now DukeCity's competition arm. Come check us out!

The clubs out in Northern NM get along really well together. LAFC is going to be a bit far for a casual drive (~100 mi each way) but I'd recommend going to both NMFF and DCF. Jamey and Toby both really know what they're talking about, and there are some decent fencers, particularly in epee, that like to go to both. I really don't know anything about UNM fencing, sorry.

And as far as school is concerned, Santa Fe Prep school is pricey but very nice, as is St Mike's (also in Santa Fe.) The people at DCF might be able to help you find a good school in town there. It's the biggest city in the state by far, so I'm sure there's something.

You'll really like in there, Duke City Fencing, Toby Tolley's group is VERY actvie and growing.

Here fencing floor is excellent, the coaching and friendlyness there are great as well.

Jamy Odom in Santa Fe is a hope skip and a jump away to so you have the option of fencing at both clubs; many of the fencers from the NM area do.

Hope this helps, if you want more contact info (e-mails, etc) Please message me and I will message you with them.
