| Club Equipment Purchasing I just got back to school/ my schools fencing club and have to buy some new equipment to accomidate our 24 new members. (eep!) I was wondering, if i have approximately 1000 dollars to work with, which distributor would give me the best deal/deals? I'm looking to buy dry equipment only (glove, mask, dry foil, jacket). The club has enough equipment for approximately 10 people so the remaining 14 are the ones that need to be able to suit up. Before this sounds any more like a math problem, i have 2 main questions - where can i get the most durable dry foils, and where can i get this at the cheapest price? i should be able to get a coaches discount. any suggestions/help? |

| durable and cheap are polar opposites in the fencing world. you might be able to fit 14 people's worth of stuff in with absolute or BG. thats about it. |

| 1) There are some direct from Asia vendors (Esun springs to mind) who sell gear extremely cheaply, but it takes a lot of extra effort because of customs, payment, etc.
2) The other thing you can do is write up your requirements:
14x jackets (sizes?)
14x basic masks
14x gloves
14x dry foils
and send it around to the usual suspects (Absolute, BG, fencing post, etc) and ask for quotes. Pick the bid you like best. |

Also the cheap dry absolute and BG blades are good for beginners. And maybe you can get some fencers to start ordering their own gears...

| Ask for more money. Shop on ebay for foils.

| Also, try ordering anything but the masks at www.esun.com.hk
Maybe you could order the blades there, and ask some local clubs if you can borrow/ buy for cheap some grips and bell guards. Try ebay for jackets. Ask other fencers if they have old jackets they'd sell for really cheap.
You cant do this if you're gonna order brand new, you'll have to hustle.

You could contact Leon Paul USA or Allstar both of them should do deals for bulk purchase of kit and its generally better quality. |

| thanks for the advice thus far...my main issue is gettting durable blades, the rest of the foils themselves (grips, pommels, bell guard, etc.). i think i should revise my comment about durable...i'm looking for stiff blades. new fencers tend to bend nice, flexible stuff into triple S-curves. any thoughts on that? or am i going the wrong direction with getting stiffer blades because of the possibility of breaking them? |
