MR | Hey, Mark--I said hi to him and we had a nice short conversation in quasi-German and sort-of-English.
I managed not to mess up my pools, came out seeded 1st with Jane Eyre 2nd, and we both cranked through our DEs and met in the gold medal bout, where Jane beat me 10-7. So American women took three out of the four medals in the 50-59 WS (Jeanette Strumillo took bronze, and Lynne Bornemisza from Great Britain also took bronze), and we were VERY pleased with ourselves.
Now I'm taking a month off from fencing.

Women's Epee 60 - yes, technically no U.S. medals. But Lisa Dobloug, who took gold fencing for Norway, lives and fences here in the DC area. She has been a very active member of the US fencing community for a long time - and while she does not fence under our flag, she is definitely one of us.

It was the only time all weekend when you could tell what club someone fenced for by looking at them--everyone else was dressed by country.
We do have a few competitors besides her who live in the US but fence for another country.

| An awesome result for Joe Elliott! He lived here in Vancouver for about 6 months several years ago and trained at my club. What a guy! If anyone sees him, please say a big hi from all Dynamo Vancouver fencers! |

Congratulations on your silver! ( How did they get away with giving the gold medal to a fictional character? ) |

We do have a few competitors besides her who live in the US but fence for another country. | I've always wondered what would happen if the US announced it was nationalizing all the athletes who lived in it but competed for other countries. |

| Hmmm . . . I don't think you understand the concept of the World Veterans. It's really not the Olympics. We're happy that people are willing to enter and compete on their own representing countries that don't have the funds or the foresight to field a team. Their participation is key to giving the event more credibility.
Besides, we're not talking people who take funds away from the U.S. - Veteran fencers tend to be professionals and support our own fencing. We're the ones who can afford to be crazy enough to blow all the money (and time) it takes, because our parents don't support us any more.

| Thanks, all, for the kind words--I couldn't have done it without you! And congratulations to our many medalists and to all the competitors for taking part.
There's a press release on the USFA website at http://www.usfencing.org/do/contentItem?contentId=653
