Czajkowski's New Book Swordplay Books has finally released Czajkowski's book--his first ever in English--Understanding Fencing.
It is a fantastically involved and comprehensive textbook for coaching fencing.
There is honestly nothing in english like this.
It's not a particularly light read, but it covers material that english-speaking coaches have never had access to. -

Array I've ordered this book... so it had better get here quickly, because now everyone is watching. Take your time. Read carefully. -
anyone know where I can purchase it in its native language? And what the title is? "A thinker sees his own actions as experiments and questions--as attempts to find out something. Success and failure are for him answers above all." -

While parts of it are taken from his various other books, it is an entirely new work, written in English for American readers. -

In English for American readers???
I'm guessing this may also be for the benefit of folks in England, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand, South Africa etc... and most of the rest of the world - where English is almost an automatic required second language.
If you have something to say, than English is probably the way to go. Take your time. Read carefully. -

Array Below I have posted links to some of his articles. Over the years, I have read some of these articles, and found them quite informative. In particular, I enjoyed very much his comment on Vernesson Sieur De Lyancourt. As I google search his articles, I stumbled in the main link that I couldn't remember where I had read them from, theCoaching News from the Canadian Fencing Federation: http://www.fencing.ca/coaching/news_coaches.htm . There are copies of some of these articles in other fencing sites. For example another copy of "Fencing Actions" is available from a salle in Tacoma. Internet Articles by Zbigniew Czajkowski 1. Thank you for listing these articles. they're tremendously well written, insightful, and give a scientific and systematic structure to thoughts I'd entertained from observation. If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust

Array The article "What is a Preparation?" is actually mine, from the website: http://home.earthlink.net/~allenevans59/
I'm not sure how the good doctor got credited with writing it, though I do referance him in it. It could just be a web crawling error. I am going to contact the Canadian web site and let them know. -

Array This guy is tedious to read. Evangelista is enjoyable compared to this guy. -

I am sorry if I incorrectly attributed the authorship to Czajkowski, but that is what the Canadian Fencing Federation indicates. If you open their link, an author's name is not included, and as you indicated Czajkowski is being quoted. Nice article.

Array No, it's fine! I understand the error. I've contacted the Canadian webmaster about the authorship.
Hmmm....I hope Reverse Lunge wasn't talking about me. -

No, no,no.
It's written in American! -
I'm in Poland now, and have just gotten the book.
While, I have to say that Swordplay did a shockingly sloppy job with the publication, the info in the book is intact (mostly).
In related news, I've arranged to have Czajkowski teach a coaching workshop at the New Amsterdam Fencing Academy next summer. -

Array I received the book today. Only 4 of the 17 chapters are available online (of my list 1, 4, 5, 6). The online version in my casual overview appears close (not exact) to the book, but there might be some significant revisions. Several sentences were reworded to improve their meaning. It will take me at least 3 months to get through (too many things to do). I hope somebody else reviews the book in a more comprehensive manner. -

I'd be happy to review it, but there may be an obvious bias.
That fellow in the picture with Czajkowski sure is dashing, though. -

Array I like the warrior/technician article.... its convinced me to sacrifice some tournaments to work on my technical side. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben Similar Threads -
