Everyone knows that true saber ranking is done by comparing how many feet downwind of one you have to be not to loose consciousness from their stench -

I know, I know, you have drifted away from it into a land where epee is wonderful and exciting and it's the sabre fencers who reek rather than, well, you. But really, when you believe that there's something wrong with everyone else and you are the sane one, well, can the straitjacket be far away?
I'd recommend taking a deep breath and relaxing, but even though your olfactory senses are probably deadened from long proximity to your epee brethren a deep breath would still probably be unwise. I've done a bit of them all. Started out with foil in High School, and did it most of the way through, as well as Epee. Did rather well in epee, being tall, and I enjoyed not having to worry about whether or not an official can see things correctly to get my points, makes it much easier and much less frustrating. It was also interesting to me, to see that foil attacks and combinations work perfectly well in epee and translate over nicely. I also had a world class foilist as a coach all through college, although he was a 3 weapon champ and I learned a lot from him.
Still chugging along with epee and doing rather well, and now my coach is another 3 weapon guy, who also specialized a good bit in saber before doing epee, so I've gotten a good bit of saber instruction as well now. I'd done it for fun before, but I'd never thought of it in terms of a structured lesson or anything, quite fun now though. I still find the form of just about all present day saberists attrocious and I can't believe that the "flunge" has made it into world class events. Modern day saber just looks horribly ugly. I swear I have yet to see a modern saberist who doesn't hunch over like a neanderthal. But eh, I guess some people just live to argue every point.
So yeah, still haven't decided whether I should put epee or all three, we shall see. -

My planet is called Earth - must be a coincidence, cause it sure isn't the name of my entire world. It's a nice, though utterly insignificant little blue-green planet in sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha, whose ape-descendent sabreurs are so amazingly primitive, they still think screaming at referees is a pretty neat idea -

"If you dont have the brains for epee, fence sabre!" =P Eh... we can still have our blades go flying and hit people.
I was taking a lesson about a month ago, lunged, blade snapped, flew behind me and hit one of the parents sitting about 10 feet away from me in the head... he was bleeding pretty good (as head wounds usually do)... I got changed to take him to the hospital, but he got the bleeding to stop. Luckily, he is one of the most easygoing people ever...

Array sabre is lots of fun foil seems interesting though, but epee is *way* too slow Similar Threads -
