Array Go Does anyone here play Go?
I've recently started playing on yahoo. The problem is that I suck.
Can anyone recommend any good books or websites on the subject?

Array I have a book on it at home; I'll check the title, it was fairly good as I recall.
This was before the internet, mind you. So I never actually played the game. ( You think finding someone to play chess against is difficult... ) -

Array Sorry, but you can't believe anything I say. I always lie. In fact, I'm lying now.

I liked the Helprin book a lot. Haven't read the other two. Worth checking out? Just because you have the right, that doesn't mean it is right. -

Can anyone recommend any good books or websites on the subject? Ok, to get back on track, I have played Go (still have a board... somewhere...). I tried playing for a year, and I was ok. Gave it up because chess is just so much simpler. A few words, though:
1)Don't focus on little stuff. Remember that if you keep to the little stuff, your opponent will be dominating the rest of the board. Or, to put it simply, keep your eyes on the prize.
2)I'm assuming you know about eyes and the immense power of a double eye. This cannot be stressed enough. You must secure your territory with a series of double eyes, or everything can crumble very quickly.
3)Most of your points will come from total territory, not pieces taken. Secure territory is far more important than chasing after a few stray pieces. This site isn't bad for an explanation of tactics. "What, really? I thought that song was just about a dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee."
"Dan, you're such a dumb*ss"

I play a lot of Go.
The very best book for beginners you'll find is by Kaoru Iwamoto and is called, strangely enough, Go for Beginners.
An excellent site for all thing Go-related is senseis.xmp.net
Hope that helped. -

Array Ok.....I don't play, because I think I'm probably not smart enough. However, you should watch the movie "Pi". The whole thing centers around Go. -

Array there's a good wikipedia article on go, with strategy and everything. "What did I tell you about being stupid? You don't get a birthday this year." -

Array I play GO. I have a 1 dan (shodan) ranking with the International Go Federation.
Here is a link for some software you can download to teach you how to play better GO. http://www.usgo.org/resources/computer.asp#teaches
Since you are a beginner I advise that you start with just a 9x9 board for a few months. -
