No offence, but good luck. The problem with starting a club, of any type, at a high school, is whether or not the school has money to give you, and if they'll give it to you, even if they have enough to spare. If it's a public school, their money comes from the county or district; and school administrators are very stingy with the money they get, espcially in poor districts. I'd discuss things with your school conselor first; they'll direct you to the right person. Just tell them what you want to do, without sounding too ambitious. And, definitely, talk to a professional first- chances are the school won't give you the money to wave a bunch of swords around if there isn't a professional to monitor things.

Chances are they will allow you to form a club. But like the Catal said, just don't expect any monetary help from the school. So it would be more like an interest club. Dependig on the SES of your school, you could form a club and everyone buys their own eq. And I know back at my high school clubs hung up flyers everywhere and even put announcements on the PA in the morning so you might check into that. Never had a fencing club but I know I would have been interested. Good luck.

Hey aspiring rapierist!

I recently (within a few months) started a club at my school. What I did to get people's attention was have my coach and a couple people from my club come and do a fencing demonstration at a lunch. I had all the people who wanted to join a club put there name on a sheet that was passed around. Then I found a adult staff member to sponser the club (the VP wouldn't let me do the club without one). After that, things went smoothly. I had a date/time thing sent out to everyone on which days would be best from then, and I chose the day that would be the best for the mojority of people. We now have about 15 fencers in our club, and we're still using a lot of makeshift stuff, since the money hasn't come in for our equipment yet, but it's worked. I used bamboo sticks to show people how to hold a french grip Anyhoo, we got some money from site council, that should be in soon. Hope this helped! Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
