Array Fencing is my religion and I worship every day. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -

I find the balace between religion and fencing very precarious, and often, you have to make decisions on which is more important to you at different periods in your life. Of course, if you you truly believe in God, He has to be first in your life always.
Personally, I take what Jesus said about the Sabbath to heart--that God made the Sabbath for man. It's a day of rest and it's become a day of communion with other members of the church. If you can do those things on another day, you're still fulfilling what God wanted. Mormonism doesn't allow that degree of freedom, I know, but it's worth thinking about.
Or you can take it another way: if you trust God and believe that He is working in your life, He can bless your fencing, even without going to every national tournament. And if He doesn't, then He has other plans for you, and you should trust Him for that, too. Thanks for your imput, and for being more sensitive about my beliefs. it's really helped. No, I haven't seen Chariots of Firebut I'm sure that it'll change my perspective a little bit once I get around to it. I guess I'll try to avoid competeing on sunday, but when I don't have much of a choice, (like when I'm at nationals, I always stay with my teammates, and ride around with them and stuff, so I don't have much of a say on where we go or what we do) I'll just keep it holy in my heart, and fence away, and read the Book of Mormon during time between pools an DE's or something. -
Well I'm Jewish and our Sabbath is on Saturdays. However, that's also when I practice... I don't really have any issues with doing it. -

Then, I'm nowhere near orthodox - they consider closing (or opening - depending on your weapon) an electric circuit to be work and therefore ... -
Haha. Yeah it's amazing the stuff the Orthodox aren't allowed to do. They can't even drive on the Sabbath (since my Synagogue is a half-hour drive away we ignore that one). -

Just do what you can. I think God knows when you're doing what you can to follow Him. Don't let 'em drop it. Don'tlet'emdropit. Stop it... bebop it.
