Senior Sectionals

I was wondering if anyone knows why sebnior sectionals (North Atlantic, in Saratoga Springs, NY) are split into two days. And what weapon, or w/e it may be is on each day. The reason I ask is because it is on Mother's Day weekend and I need to know if I am fencing on Mother's Day or not.

I don't know why your senior sectionals are split into two days, but I know why ours (Mid-Atlantic)are--it's a pain to run three tournaments in one day in one place, let alone six, just getting enough referees is usually a bear, not to mention bout committee members.

Bummer yours are on Mother's Day weekend--we don't seem to have anything then for a change. My husband gave me my first sabre for Mother's Day a few years back, which is why I love him.

The easy way to find the schedule is to check the entry form (available at the NAS website http://www.nasusfa.org ).

Unfortunately I'm on a borrowed computer which doesn't have acrobat installed so I can't check it for you.

Delia's right about the reason for the split. Last year at sectionals we were drawing fields of up to the mid-50's (ME, MF, WF might have been that large). Trying to do 6 events like that in a day doesn't work so well. Then try to account for people who want to fence multiple weapons....

It's pretty common practice to run regional tournaments that attract a big turnout over two days. Unless you have far more space, strips, referees, and organizing staff than are typically available at a sub-national level and are restricting fencers to one weapon only, it's quite difficult to pull something like that off in one day without running late into the night and having everything go smoothly.
