Super Fencer will become famous soon enough
Fencing Star Academy

I'm looking for a club in the Atlanta area (perferably north of the city). Anybody know anything about Fencing Star Academy (location, price, etc). I've seen some of their fencers do well at local tournaments. Any info/recommendations would be appreciated.

I took a community college class once (foil), and fenced a local tournament but that was a few years ago.

Don't forget about Dunwoody Fencing Club (if you don't mind fencing epee)

Links to all of the GA Clubs can be found by clicking here. Several of them are in or near North Atlanta:

- Athletic Club Northeast (a very good foil-only club; a few "A" fencers plus a few more Bs.)
- North Georgia Fencing Center (This is Gary DiMaggio's Club; it has been open for some time now.)
- Decatur Blades
- Dunwoody Fencing Club (mostly epee, a few "C" and "B" fencers.)
- Peachtree Ridge High School (can't remember offhand if it's open to non-students; you can write Robert Fryman and ask.)

The others in the Atlanta area are:

- Atlanta Fencers Club (three weapons, a handfull of "A" and "B" fencers.)
- Nellya Fencers (a very elite club, mostly sabre)
- Shepherd Fencers club (both wheelchair and “able-body” fencing)

If you happen to live Northwest of Kennesaw/Marietta, then our club (Rome Fencing Club) may be closer than the Atlanta Clubs. Rome is about an our or so from Downtown Atlanta; about 45 minutes from Kennesaw.

I am not familer with Fencing Star, though a couple of their members (Jose Ortega and Julio Diaz) a two of the best foilits in the SE Section.

Each club has great fencers and coaches; I would recommend any one of them. Happy hunting!

the FSA coaches are competent, and I'd reccomend them for saber and foil. For epee, Atlanta FC and Dunwoody FC are both strong clubs.

I'll be in the Atlanta the week of August 29th and was hoping to find a club that I could drop by and do some foil fencing one evening. I've looked at the websites for the clubs in the area but can't seem to find much info about open fencing hours. Plus, with it being summer, schedules might be even more limited.

Does anyone in the Atlanta area know which clubs will have open fencing during that week? I'd love to drop in and fence!

Thanks,
Dan

I am not sure of the exact hours but last time I check AFC was open pretty much every night of the week and they wlecome guests. Nellya says guests are welcome on their web page and seem to be a every day group too, but I haven't been in the building.

Nellya Fencers have foil fencing every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting approximately at 6:30 pm. Guests are certainly very wellcome. If you decide to come by, please let us know at info@nellyafencers.com, just in case, since we will be in the process of moving to our new location around that time. Though the plan now is to make sure that it does disrupt our practice time as little as possible. Our address and directions as well as other information on the club can be found at www.nellyafencers.com

Nellya Fencers is moving to the northwest Atlanta location
(1530 CARROLL DRIVE, SUITE 104, ATLANTA), starting in September 2005. We have very strong sabre fencing component (our Sada Jacobson is #1 in the world and three years world cup award winner). Our foil group is smaller, but also rather strong
(Chris Loper, for example, just got Gold medal at the Nationals at Sacramento).
Our coach, Arkady Burdan, teaches both sabre and foil, and he was a 2004 Olympic Team coach in Athens.
In other words, we have much to offer (not to mention a brand new club with locker rooms, showers, etc).
Or yes, we all are rather interesting company too....
Come visit us, talk to us, make an educated decision.
If you decide to come by, please let us know at info@nellyafencers.com just in case (we are in the process of moving...). You could also read on the club at www.nellyafencers.com
