| Hello from Toronto/Ryerson I've started fencing again after a 25 year absence. Back in the 70's I began fencing at the University of Waterloo and fenced foil at several clubs in Ontario including St.Jamestown in Toronto where I took lessons from Mr. Fred Wach. He sadly passed away in the 80's (apparently he had a heart attack while giving a lesson - he did love the sport so very much and I do miss him. Unfortunately there aren't many fencers here who remember him except Kay Aoyama and myself.) Currently I am a member at Ryerson University, a very good foil club and home to several top ranked provincial and national fencers. At 52 years old, I'm not what you would consider a competative threat, but I do give the younger fencers quite a run for their money and on occassion can handily beat opponents half my age.
After such a long time off, I expected the sport to have changed quite a lot, but it's really not the case. Except for the current controversy over the timings, not much is different - oh, sorry, Sabre is now electric.
I'm glad to be back fencing and am sorry I didn't come back sooner. I am planning to compete in the Ontario circuit this fall and am hoping to finish in the top 20 - not a very lofty goal I'll admit, but quite enough for me.
I enjoy this site (something we certainly didn't have in the 70's) and the ability to hear from fencers all around the world, sharing experiences, ideas, tips and tricks.

| Hello victord66. Are you a lefty or a righty? I bet you're a righty.
I really just wanted to say hello and steal Lefty1's thunder.

If you look at the rankings from last year, you'll see that every fencer in the top-20 attended one or both of these. Some only attended these two tournaments.
They are so much bigger than the others that they're crucial if you're considering your OCC ranking to be important. |

As to Foiling Around, I'm not sure if I'll fence. I'm having a slight problem with my right elbow (yes I'm a righty), maybe some tendon damage so I want to clear that up over the next month. Our club president Keith Bridger will probably want me to help out though. I'll probably see you there. |

Lefty1 | Thanks Lefty1 (and indeed everyone who has welcomed me). Hey you'd probably like fencing at our club. Many lefties and our master is abidexterous (is that right?) - meaning he can teach with either hand. As a matter of fact, I take most of my lessons with him using the left hand.
Victor. |
