Fencing in Statesboro?

I just moved to Statesboro Georgia and I am looking for a club to fence in. I fence mainly epee, but I fool around with sabre sometimes. I have been competively fencing for ten plus years, and I can teach adults too. I looked up clubs online and all of the fencing clubs in Georgia seem to be 3-4 hours away. Any advice? Where to go, where to avoid? Help!!!

isnt' there a club in statesboro?? there was a tournament in that city the past several years i think....but yea, that city kinda is in the middle of "fencing nowhere"...

also, statesboro is about 2.5 hrs or so away from jax, FL. if so, you could go there....but then again, EPEE isn't that big there anymore.

Statesboro

I was looking on USFA, and i saw

Georgia Southern University
Frank French
PO Box 8042
Statesboro, GA 30460-1000

but i'm not sure if that helps. I'm not from that area so i'm not sure about any clubs down there.

Hope that helps,
~Orange

wiwf is on a distinguished road
Georgia Southern does have a fencing club.
Heard something about another club being started around those parts.
PM "Swordsen" he should know about both.

Savannah also used to have a club that was semi active.

Statesboro does have a club. They are the Georgia Southern University club but locals are also welcome. In the fall they are moving into the RAC (GSU's rec center), but presently they are fencing in an old building owned by one of the members. As I've not spoken to the contacts that I have on that club recently so I'll not post thier name and number here but, if you get your bearings in S'boro and feel like being adventurous, they practice on Friday's from 5 to 6 or 7pm and the building is located at the following place:

Find the town Mall.(It's next to the Wal-mart) Drive into the town on the 4 lane divided road. (I think it's rte 80) when you pass the Waffle House it should be on your right. (If it's on your left you're going the wrong way.) Drive until you see an Advance Auto Parts store on your right hand side. There is road to the right immdiately after the AAP store. Don't take that one, BUT take the next one past that. (This will look like a rather industrial area) drive down a little way's and on your left hand side you'll see a beat up looking building with a large sign in the window that says something like GSU Fencing (It'll have an Eagle mascot - like the university on it) Failing that drive around that area a little looking in windows.

NOTE: Doing this after classes start at GSU will likely result in you not finding them because as I mentioned, they will have moved back on to campus. Just ask anyone where the RAC is to find them then.)

Also, Savannah does have a club and 'Black Jeebus' of this board is a member so PM him to find out where they're fencing.

ANOTHER NOTE: If all that doesn't help PM me and I'll call the folk I know down there so I can pass thier name and number on to you.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll give it a shot. I also have the number of a guy who runs the GSU club. I'm going to call him and hopefully get some more details.
