Array Touch your toes I have the longest, deepest lunge of anyone I know but I can't touch my toes.
Can you touch your toes? -

Array length of lunge has to do primarily with hip flexor flexibility not hamstring flexibility...
btw, i can palm the floor (i.e. head almost touching knee/shin)... -

I know that. I'm just not very flexible when it comes to anything besides lunging and in-fighting. -
i know people that do touch their head to their knees. as for me, i can touch my toes. `When the only tool you own is a hammer, every problem begins to resemble a nail.'

It can have everything to do with hamstring though if flexibility is smaller than length of leg.
Hip flexibilty is, in men, primerally dependent on hamstring.
The first poster would find their lunge even bigger if they could improve hamstring flexibility.
Women usually have sufficient hamstring flexibility to not have to bother about it.

Array Length of lunge has to do primarily with the explosive power of your rear leg. Length of your legs is important, but not as important as the power of your rear leg, I think.
High level fencers have a "flight time" during their lunge which means that if you can lengthen the distance you cover during that "flight time" you will get a longer lunge. Doing this properly means you can lunge longer than someone with a longer, but weaker, pair of legs. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Array Touching your toes??? Piece of cake! Pressing your head against your knees as you do it (called a forward bend)... not hard either!... Mind you I've been doing yoga since I was a kid.
While I have a higher muscle mass than most women (therefore shouldn't be flexiable) I think if you spend enough time stretching, anyone can increase their flexiability. One of the activities I do besides fencing and cycling is yoga and weight lifting.
RL.... if you want to increase your flexiability join a yoga class.... think of it as a another opportunity to see fit young women bending over. Beer, it's whats for dinner! ~ a young snowboarding Canadian The meek don't want it! ~ sticker on a rock band's guitar -

Array I can touch my toes on a good day when I'm really stretched out. If I'm not stretched though, not a chance. "Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory." - George S. Patton -

Array Believe it or not, I can actually touch my toes cold... I can touch the floor whilst wearing shoes, but I need to warm up first.
Heh... a year ago, I could barely touch my shins... Pound for pound, the amoeba is the most vicious animal on earth. -

The vision of you in tights isn't quite having the same affect on me as Cornflower.... although it's kinda funny when you think about a class full of people in loose comfortable clothing and some guy appears in tights!
