The more I read about a good diet, the more I remember what my mother always told me. Eat your veggies, don't fill up on bread, don't spoil your meals with sugary snacks, eat lean proteins, and drink lots of water.
And, don't forget to indulge yourself every once a while. The key there being once and a while.... We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean

We go fishin' or go swimmin' in the sea

Array I like turkey and broccoli! In the time of chimpanzees

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat? -
I like pizza.
Mmmmm, I could really go for some pepperoni pizza right now.
I could REALLY eat some pepperoni pizza. Like...REALLY. If I, right now, had to choose between true love and pepperoni pizza, it would be a close one. -

Array A balanced diet is good for non athletes.... athletics have different needs, atleast thats what I think. Of course you still need veggies and fruits, but you need alot more protein and carbs for training energy and to build muscle. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. You'll find that veggies and fruits are carbs.
Everybody is different. Diet is a very personal choice, and what works wonders for one person, doesn't always work for others.
Also, fencers don't need to be huge. We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean

Also, fencers don't need to be huge. Of course they dont need to be huge, they need to be strong though, and have the energy to be active for long periods of time. True; however, athletes who are still growing need to ensure that they get enough of everything required for proper development. It's one thing to get appropriate nutrition for building up specific aspects of yourself (muscle, stamina, speed), but it's another entirely to get appropriate nutrition for what you have no control over (bone development, nervous system development, providing the right nutrients to facilitate learning). Pound for pound, the amoeba is the most vicious animal on earth.
