| Spotted on pg 146 of British Marie Claire...Aug 2002 ed FENCE ME IN
Sill after those Kylie Curves? Try fencing. Not only is it New York's latest hip keep-fit fad - Oscar winner Halle Berry willbe buckling her swash in the new Bond movie, while Catherine Zeta-Jones faced Antonio Banderas's, ahem, weapon in The Mask of Zorro - but its perfect for perking up your butt. And you get to see men in tight breeches. Call the British Fencing Association on 020-8742 3032 for details.....
Comments???? Personally I think an article would have been better but then some publicity is better then no publicity? Is it really the latest keep fit fad??? HHMMMMMMMM!!!

| Some good may come of it. You might get a glut of people turning up to begin with, but I'm sure that at least of couple of them will actually enjoy it and take it up as a sport, not a designer keep fit routine.
I'll see how many new people turn up in the next few weeks |

| Sanky, what worries me is that is was accompanied by that god awful picture of Zeta Jones from Zorro where she is pointing a sword at A.B. and is basically in one of those white floaty dress things.

| I'm not familiar with that picture. Needless to say I wont be buying Marie Claire to look for it
I can't see "floaty white dress things" catching on in fencing (shame really ) but I can see your point. |

| We don't want 'white floaty' we want 'skin tight' or prefferably 'revealing'. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
Zelda, who knows? Any publicity is good publicity.
Dunno about it being the latest craze in NY - any feedback from the NY fencers?

| Hey, I liked that picture. And since it was a funny movie, the contrast of the floaty dress and the sword was hilarious--plus she was like a kitten hissing at a big dog.

| Peach, the picture when taken in context is fine, but they have obliterated EVERYTHING that gave it context!!!! Its literally just C. Z-J.

| I've just looked over the article in Marie Claire - I'm curious as well!
The female colleague who I borrowed it off just gave me this funny look and then handed the magazine over. I've told her the whole thing is true! I wonder if she'll give it a go?

| Tut, Tut, my friends, this is a family rated forum. There ARE children here. Albeit, not all of them are under 18!
But, back to the ORIGINAL topic. Any publicity is good publicity, especially if it brings in folks to try it out. My philosophy has been, if anyone wants to try it, for whatever reason, I'll teach them. Even the "tire kickers", the ones that show up for just a couple of lessons. You never know when the next champion will show up in you class. Treat them all like they have the potential to be that.
The other benefit is that you are exposing (no, I'm not going there....!) people to the sport so that when, and if, it gets wider notice, at least then you'll have an informed audience. It has taken the US at least 30+ years to get a semi-informed public with regard to soccer/football.
I say use it to your best advantage! Good luck.

| I keep telling everyone that fencing could be the next Taebo ™ if given the proper marketing; we just need some hyperactive psuedo-celebrity to get a club full of fencers to don neon spandex uniforms and do a bunch of footwork drills to music, like in By the Sword. Just make some tapes and hype it a lot with late night infomercials... |
