| Details on October NAC? Anybody care to venture a guess as to when we'll see the details of the October Div II/III/something else NAC?
I'm keen on going, but I can't really make the decision until I see the schedule of events and know whether I'd have to take a day off work or not. Since "work" is "teaching college classes," I can't just take a vacation day whenever I want... I'm hoping neither event that I'd be fencing in (II and III WS) is on a Monday.
It's been quite a while since I went to a NAC; I'm assuming (hoping) that they schedule things so that (eligible) people can fence in both the II and III event in their weapon, and preferably on adjacent days? Airfare to Miami is going to be a pain in the wallet as is... |

| I'm chomping at the bit to buy my airline tickets, before the current Southwest Airlines sale period ends! As of right now I believe they list flights to Fort Lauderdale at $49 each way (pre-taxes, of course). Not bad... |

| Probably the daily line-up of events will be posted soon. Don't expect the times until September. |

| if the daily line up of events is posted before mid-august I"m going to be mighty surprised. That would require, you know, advance planning!

Or just fob those classes off on your TA. I'm opting for plan A, but then again, I embody most of those negative stereotypes about professors who only care about their research... |

| Holly,
Monday should be Columbus day... Do you have classes on Columbus day? If not... there is still hope that you could have an 8:00AM close... and the event will be done early enough to fly home that night... obviously not the best situation in the world... but it would allow you to fence.

| Thanks for the replies!
I have to turn in my syllabus at the end of August, so hopefully I'll be able to tell by then whether I'll take the Monday off or not. (I'm in California now and the uncivilized brutes don't take Columbus Day off! Bah, humbug.) I don't want to cancel class if I can possibly avoid it, as I'm a lowly part-time associate faculty (no TA for me, certainly!) and I don't want to abuse the leniency of my department head, who already let me reschedule one class and cancel another for Sectionals and Nationals.
Fencerchica, I am SO intrigued by the $49 fare idea....! If you fly into Ft. Lauderdale, how do you get to Miami - by taxi or shuttle? |

Fort Lauderdale airport is only about 30 miles north of here (maybe 35 from the venue) but it's through some of the worst I-95 congestion imaginable. If you can find an airfare into Miami (an American Airlines hub) that's not much more than what you can find into Ft. Lauderdale, take it!
That's my two cents from the tropics. Looking forward to seeing everybody.

harry | What/where is the venue? I can't book air yet w/o the event schedule, but I'd try to book a cheap room right now if I knew the venue location. |

| Thanks HDG for the info! I really hadn't decided how I'd find my way down; I knew it was only 30 miles, and was debating whether it'd be worth it to spring for a rental car. (Though on second thought, most likely I'll be renting a car, because I'm splitting expenses with a clubmate, and I think we'll want to be pretty mobile.)
(p.s. Rats, I think the sale ended. Now I see lowest fares of $79 each way at Southwest.com) |

March 10-13, 2006: Division II/III/Veteran, Denver, CO
April 21-24, 2006: Division I/Youth 14/12/10, Sacramento, CA

Perhaps Ouiyt can confirm this. Nice facility; Sectionals were there a couple of years ago. Check the thread mentioned earlier for my rundown of what's in the area. Short version, great dining, few hotel rooms w/in a couple of miles.
