    Gloves

So far every glove I get wears out pretty quickly, and I find I often have to wear gloves bigger than what the size of my palm would deem appropriate. I think this is due to having rather long fingers. Gloves that should be the right size don't accomadate my fingers and stretch out the base of the glove. Even if I go a size or two large I get the same problem and the palm wears out pretty quickly. Any reccomendations about gloves to try out? I've just been using generic washable ones from AFS.

Maybe try leather with a reinforced palm.

i use the uhlmann gloves. i have had two that have lasted over a year. the only problem is the exchange rate has gone up, making them more expensive than they are worth.

I've found the Uhlmann/Allstar synthetic gloves do tend to last longer than the less expensive synthetic gloves. If you put together an order from
Fechtsport-Langenkamp that's large enough to make the shipping costs work (not hard if you stock up on point parts & wires for the season), you'll only have to spend about $25 for the glove.

If you want the best durability, a good leather glove will outlast a synthetic glove if you take care of it. The rub is, it's much easier to just toss the synthetic glove in the wash than to take good care of a leather glove (hand-washing with saddle soap and oiling with some regularity).

*cough*estoc*cough* leather gloves are pretty damn good, but for someone with long fingers they might not work. depends. some do some dont.

you could always get Martha Stewart on it and make your own. re-enforce the areas that you're wearing out.

you just have to remember that if you are buying gloves from a certain vendor/manufacturer/brand that they are all going to have their own template from which they make their gloves. some brands have longer fingers, some have larger palms, some have better re-enforcements, others have none. you're never going to find a glove that is fit EXACTLY to your hand measurements unless you either pay someone to custom make your glove (which is costly and not very time efficient especially if coming from overseas) or make it yourself (which can be a pain in the butt).
    it's not a fashion statement.
