Other sort of EASY guys....
The Z grips are an evolution of the pistol grip. They are not a vast leap in the direction of perfection and I don't think anyone is claiming they are.
Some like them others don't.
Mr Epee and achilleus don't like them
Bram and MANY others do
I couldn't care less one way or the other but this is a totally pointless discussion -

I am intrigued by them, but simply refuse to pay over $50 for a new one. Or any grip for that matter, unless it's made of gold or makes me look like Pierce Brosnan. "All things must pass. Almost everyone knows that smoking is really bad for you. If people were 'rational', the ciggarette companies would go out of business in about 5 minutes. Just because something sells well is not grounds to correleate it with how good/usefull it is. -

I guess the point is to remember that modern isn't better?
Some like them others don't.
Mr Epee and achilleus don't like them Bran and MANY others do Just for the record... Bran is the primary distributor for these grips.

Array Look, I don't know if this bears into the conversation or not. One of my children fenced with a French Grip in foil for years and was unrated. Coach said she had to lose the French Grip because it wasn't the "proper" grip for foil. This kid hated every grip shown to her.
By accident, I cut one of her tangs intending to put a visconti on it, but couldn't find one. Instead, I ended up putting on a Zivkovic "B" grip. Daughter didn't squawk overmuch. Said it provided the same point control as the French Grip. Three months later, competed and earned an E, then a D, then a C.
One of the comments she gets is that her touch is feather light, and that her point control is "killer". Just my 2 cents worth. -

Array How old is she?
Having the strength to manipulate the weapon properly is a major problem, particularly for younger fencers (esp. girls)... my guess is that she was already headed in the right direction, and finally was able to control the weapon, without feeling it was going to be constantly knocked out of her hand.
Point control without the strength to absorb a beat, make a disengage, or control a parry is pretty useless... so anything was probably better than what she was using. Take your time. Read carefully. -

Array She's 14. You may be right, as her coach has worked her pretty intensely. -

He is hardly an impartial observer in the discussion. Indeed modern isn't always better the issue is entirely subjective as I have said previously.
FYI I am Alex Paul as in of Leon Paul Equipment and I am well aware that Bran is one of my competitors and the manufacturer of the Z grips. -

Array As long as I'm here...
Alex, I bought a uniform and mask from you last winter (FIE, Atlanta as I recall), and I LOVE it. Thanks for the great gear. "All things must pass. All things must fade away." - George Harrison Similar Threads -
