| Can You See This? I've been experimenting with stereograms of fencing images. See if you can "see" this familiar Athens fencing image and let me know what you all think ...
Have fun and don't get as bleary-eyed as I did trying to create it!

| That's one of my favorites.
Ironic that the FIE has chosen an image like this for it's home page and added lightning to imply that fencing is a dynamic and athletic sport. They then subsequently changed the rules to remove the action that allows moves like this.

| The home page lightning/jump image that the FIE uses is being changed as part of a redesigned Web site, supposedly this summer or early September (much of the staff is on vacation now). I've supplied them with about 50+ recommended shots from which they're planning to use five or six as key images in a new design that I haven't yet seen. It's my understanding that the current shot is going to be discontinued (I'm not sure who created that image, by the way -- it's not one of mine). |

(i just had to check, and it looks like they changed it to a foil) |

| Cool! I can see it clearly.
For those that have never learned how to view a stereogram, imagine that you can see through your monitor and focus your eyes about a foot and a half (50 centimeters) behind the monitor.

I can stare all I want and it still doesn't some to me...
(I am very short-sighted, this may have something to do with it. )

| try this then. Print it out and put the piece of paper up to your nose (or alternatively, put your nose up to the monitor). Then slowly increase the distance between your nose and the image, and see if it doesn't pop into view.

| I see a foot-long submarine sandwich handcuffed to former U.S. President Nixon. Three sheep cavort in the background, dressed in what I assume are togas(?), while Santa is being decapitated by one of his angry reindeer and falling from an angry, lightning-filled sky.
Very nice artwork. Good job!
And now I've got a headache. |

| I can see the image but I'm not real sure what I'm looking at. The lower left almost looks like a human figure but as for the upper right image I haven't a clue. Could somebody link the original image so I can compare?

Thanks for the tip, though!

| I'm seeing John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever in the bottom left and some sort of levitational (sp?) guy in the top right.
Taking a wild guess, I'm not seeing it correctly

| I can see it just fine but if I didn't know the original picture that was used I wouldn't be able to tell what the heck I was looking at.
Everytime I see a stereogram I think of the movie "Mallrats"

| Ditto elemental's comment. I can see it but if I didn't know what it was I'd be confused by the strange blobs.......

(Note - this works better on an older CRT than on the newer LCD monitors) Position yourself so your reflection overlays the stereogram. Then, stare at your reflection. Focus on your reflection - not the image on the screen. This will cause your eyes to focus on exactly twice the distance from your head to the monitor. Keep staring at your reflection. If you are lucky, the image on the monitor will resolve itself in your peripheral vision.
This is how I first learned to see stereograms.

| This is the very first stereogram that I've ever been able to see. At least, I think I see it...
