| Ah, it will be nice to fence guys again, after a whole 10 months of college meets.

| I know...but my not having a car on campus, or at all, kinda puts a damper on my plans to go to local USFA tourneys. Maybe this upcoming year I can bum rides off fellow teammates.

edited to add: it also depends where in WMa you're coming from... if it's Amherst area, Rt 2 makes sense, if it's Northampton side of the river, I'd choose 91 to the Pike to 495. | Well, I'm closer to Northampton than Amherst, but I'm just north of Northampton and I just went to mapquest (something I probably should have done sooner) and going north to route 2 appears to be marginally faster (but basically I live right on the verge of where mapquest will send you north to 2 or south to 90).
So thanks to you and Brad. I appreciate the help. |

| The tournament is in progress... as I type this the second round of pools for the Y-14 portion of the competition is being fenced now. I will be updating the results throughout the day. Monitor this link for the latest results (I will update after each round): http://www.prisedefer.com/campsevent...tournament.htm

| Sorry for the delay mid-day... I decided to fence, and no one picked up my slack. We're caught up again now.

| Wooot. It was a fun tournament. It was kindof hard to muster an enthusiasm for my last two DE bouts for placement, but I figured since even if I lost the first one I'd have to fence another I might as well try to win.
On the day, my footwork seemed to be functional but I was way too big with my hand and also rushed a little. The medals were kindof dumb (generic medals the new england division always gives out) but it was still a fun day.
Definitely worth the price of entry and more.

| hm, it's also worth noting with a certain ammount of pride that the top five finishes in the tournament represent the host club. Woot, prise de fer...

AND got hit in the back of the head by Dan during first round of said pools.

| Next time I fence you, proto, I'll be sure to magically grow 3 inches taller.

| A very nice tournament indeed. After three days of the camp, I was foolish to enter, but the pool was a lot of fun and so was my first DE, but after that my front leg was essentially a paperweight, and after the second DE the paperweight was attacking me like a bulldog I finished up in the fourth DE (yes, fourth) putting line, confusing my opponent who wasn't sure if I was deaf, crippled, or just peculiar (hmmm . . . all of the above), and being given the excellent advice to withdraw while I could still walk . . . and then, after the finals, I drove for seven hours. So I'm a doofus.
I have to say that having a tournament at PdF is one of the nicest experiences possible. The club itself is spectacular (looking out at a waterfall from huge windows) and well equipped--the strip set-up and machines are outstanding. Not only that, it was a real eye-opener to attend a small club tournament that was as well-run as, say, the Pomme de Terre (surprise, surprise). The format was ingenious and designed to provide good fencing for everyone.
You all shoulda been there.

| I'm glad everyone else did well...
I refuse to believe that my disappointing performance was due to my constant dementedness, so I'll pin it on the facts that 1) I knew hardly anyone there, 2) I had never fenced at PdF before {yes, being at a new venue throws me off, wanna fight about it?}, and 3) I was fencing guys, something {as I mentioned earlier} that I hadn't done in almost a year. I might as well wear one of these instead of a mask.
Nonetheless, it was good to see a few familiar faces...but I noticed the absence of some people who had said they'd be there (cough cough telkanuru).
Having never encountered a progressive format before yesterday, I had mixed feelings about it. I suppose that if you started off doing extremely well, you would be all set for the rest of the day. But it does seem to seriously hinder any potential "upward mobility" that the other fencers would otherwise have, more so than a regular, 100% promotion tourney.

| Wha-huh? I thought Valentin Staller was from Long Island, MFA in particular.

He goes to school in New Hampshire, however, and has been taking lessons with Ariana, I believe. He might be PdF officially starting next week (I don't have any information either way on that question), but you're right that he isn't yet. He should be listed as MFA for any events in the 04-05 season.

-B | And, indeed, he is listed as MFA on the results. however, we all think of him as a member of the club already (not surprisingly).
I kinda wish you'd stuck around to fence. Especially since the final would have been much more exciting if there was at least ONE fencer in the 4 not from our club. as it was, everybody sat and watched, but nobody could cheer!
And, btw, props to DJ for getting near real-time results posted for a local sabre tourney! Why bother? as he put it, "because, well, why not?"
