| Regarding the feminine version, I've also heard them refer to themselves as "Sabureistas!" |

Boo | There's no distinction, it's:
- un épéiste et une épéiste
- un fleuretiste et une fleuretiste |

| I think that's just a function of people's tendency to slur some words. Or in this case, to flatten out the initial E.
Instead of all these words for sabre fencers, I propose "Excellencies". That strikes almost the right chord of awed respect which we ought to be accorded. |

More seriously, the first é and the second one are pronounced the same way but I can't find out an english word which has this sound in it, sorry. (... and don't say Rendez-vous, folks!) |

| I pronounce the first "e" in "epee" like the flat "e" in "let."
I pronounce the final "ee" like the long "a" in "hay."
EP-pay.
Je ne parle pas de français. Donc, je n'essaie pas de prononcer des mots comme une personne française les prononcerait.

| Just to make things more complicated, I was wondering, which spelling would you people go for : sabRE or sabER

| Yes! FB, you really have something there!
Most of the time I just answer to my last name screamed by the director on the strip at the start of pools and d.e.'s.
Sabre people, saber folk. It's all ok with me.
Even "hey you!" works.

| I think that sabreurs have been more concerned about how the actions are called than how they themselves are called
Besides, in our little corner of world, we usually denominate our glorious activity of sabre simply by the name of "fencing". Occasionally we might "do some foil" or "poke with epees" for the fun of diversity, though...

In working with the USFA a few months ago on the Pittsburgh NAC news release, I learned that the USFA is now using "saber," at least when dealing with non-fencers. |

Now if I can just get people to stop calling me cute......
