Adjusting to new coaching..how long does it usually take you?

So my lesson for this season is apparently never to get too attached to my coaches, because they'll all be gone with the wind soon enough. Coach at New Paltz ditched us, and now my coach at home is gone with no explanation as of yet. Although, we got Boris Khurgin and Misha Shimshovich as the new sabre coaches, so I certainly can't complain about THAT.

The point is, this is the third time in about...seven months that I'm getting a new coach. How long does it take you guys to adjust to a new coach's style of teaching before it really starts to click?

Off-topic edit- So now I'm apparently "Just really nice". Come on, you all know that's a big fat lie.

It depends on how much they require you to change your style. It also depends on how good your basic footwork and handwork are.

I've had five different coaches in my career. One of them taught me from scratch, and all the others have to some degree undone or redone what I started with.

I now have two coaches with very different styles, which sometimes makes taking lessons confusing, but I've gotten pretty good at switching gears.

But to answer your question, it takes me between four months and a year to really adapt to a new master.

As a side note, if you think of styles of fencing as though they were styles of dance, rather than doctrine written on stone tablets and handed down from the mountain--i.e., one master might be teaching you classical ballet, while another is teaching modern jazz dance, it is easier to change.
