Shin Guard?

OK, before you decide I'm a total wimp hear me out. I'm an Insulin dependant diabetic and one of my great fears in life is infections in the extremities. I've noticed that I have been accumulating a bunch of nicks and scratches on the shin of my leading leg while fencing foil. I don't even know how most of them got there but they seem to take a long time to heal. Does anybody know if there are specially padded socks or ultralight shin guards available that I could wear under my sock to protect this area? I'm trying to figure out if something is out there already or if I need to invent something. Thanks!

Check out sports stores that carry soccer gear. They should have some nice light shin pads.

Your basic soccer shin guard will work- they are not heavy at all.

I'll also suggest some sort of athletic sleeve... something like this:

Don't have any idea what'll work best, but figured you ought to have a couple options to look in to.

Thanks Proto! That looks like a good first choice! I think the soccer shin guards would probably be a bit overkill. Thank you all for your replys though!

I know someone who went to the local sports store and bought football forearm protectors (extra-large) and did the same thing but at a fraction of the cost. Hope this helps.
