Array Message Board Testing I've loaded up all members as of 7/17 to the new message board. I'll look to move some of the forum topics over there during the weekend.
Feel free to log into the new board and test out the features. This is the default install, so it doesn't include some items that I'll be putting in for the final move.

Array Awesome board!!!! I love the new features and the overall appearance. When do we move? ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array And just as I was getting used to the old forum. Sigh. Old dogs and new tricks and all that sort of thing. Such is the price of progress.
We have been a busy little boy, haven't we, Craig?
Looks like it will be a great improvement. Good work. -
I must be dense or something.
I just tried to post a test message under my user name. No good. Instead I got an error response: "Sorry but this user name has already been taken." ... Yeah! by ME.
So talk the newbie through the process, please. -

Array Oooh, how exciting! -
Will other "styles" be enabled via user preferences? The default silver style is difficult to read for some people to the point of being painful.
I'm familar with phpbb and, from a user standpoint, I haven't seen much of a major advantage of it over the type of board fencing.net currently is using. While a few folks usually get carried away with certain phpbb features, most have just wanted to simply read and post.
However from a administrator's standpoint, phpbb can be less of a hassle than some other board systems. So the major advantage to the users of phpbb might be a happier admin -

Array I guess that different people's eyes work differently because I think that the current silver style if perfect! Still to each his own. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Kinda fun to read through the members list and see who has come and gone. Whatever doesn't kill you, is gonna leave a scar...

Array I'm planning on working the board templates/styles around what the current ubb style is. I don't know if there will be other styles available since they would all take some coding to get them looking how I would want them.
As to admin - Moving away from ubb because of the amount of cgi resources it likes to consume vs. the resources that phpbb uses. Makes the servers happier!
In terms of mods, other than layout stuff, the one that I'm most likely to implement would be a calendar since my cgi one here had to get cut.
I'm talking to some of the graphically enabled to help out with icons, etc. for the new "look". I'll let you know when there is something to preview.
Cheers,

Array Sciurus, what did you "get"? I had the same problem. If I left the username block empty it let me post, but as "Guest"---under my own name, I get "that name is already taken". Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array It looks okay except there is no Jawa emoticon. -

Array Log into the test board with the username and password that you use here. All the member files have been transferred so that people who are into testing things can test it out.

Array also, its worth a look just to see what 355 can come up with at 4:00 in the morning. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Hey, Craig, is there a way to make the "Notify me when a reply is posted" be unchecked by default? It's a nice feature, but I hardly think you'd want to use it on every post you make, especially since the email it sends out doesn't tell you what was said, only that something was posted...
Oh, hey, it's already there... I didn't see it. Cool.
