| Bult My Own Test Box A previous thread inspired me to build my own test box. I have no experience at this sort of thing, but with the info that DHCJr and others provided, it seemed do-able. I just finished it and it doesn't look anything like Eric Schlaepfer's box. In fact it looks like hell; the wiring looks like a donkey's breakfast and I think I used a pound of solder, but it works like a charm! It tests each of the 3 bodycord lines, mask cords, shorts, epees, foils and lames. The project box, 6-way switch & banana jacks came from Radio Shack. The 2mm jack came off an old foil, the bayonet socket came from Absolute and the multi-meter came from Home Depot. Total cost - about $60.

| Congratulation and don't worry about looks. Each Armorer has their own style. In fact, for a Junior Worlds, I think '87, Ted Li built a test wall. that used huge 12" meters built onto a frame of 2x4's. It looked ugly, but with those huge meters, you could do every test.
Before Dan made his first 'Perfect Fencer, he built a shorter, that had every Foil connector that he could use for testing on the strip. The thing is, it was a blob of material holding all these connectors together. It did not look professional job, which everything else does.
Keep it up, each will be a little easier and a little better.

On his web site he says , "I enjoy programming PIC microcontrollers and using them in various projects of mine." It is pretty cool that it switches between three readouts for testing body cords to one readout for testing lames (and I would imagine weapons too).

| I built a very basic foil/epee test box from Radio Shack parts for less than $15 or so. It's crude and does not measure resistance, but it works! Click here for a description.

| Have you seen these? http://www.zivkovic.com/item.jsp?web_id=613
Combination mini for epee, mini for foil (2-prong or bayo), universal tester and body cord tester all in one sleek unit. Really useful stuff for clubs or teams.
