    Multiple blasts paralyse London

Nusy asked the question in the Question Game thread "what is happening in London?"

The answer is that no one knows. There have a been a succession of explosions around London which have brought the Tube to a halt and is in danger of bringing the entire central London area to a standstill. At the time of writing 6 stations have had 'explosions' and so have 4 buses. Details are sketchy. No serious fatalities.

Here's a prelimiary report from the Beeb: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4659093.stm

EDIT: There has been reports of serious casualties. Mobile phone network has been shut down.

I read about 3 and the assumption that it has a terrorist background in relation with G8. But that's a connection fast made, of course, as it seems the most logical......

I agree with the G8 connection. Anarchists? Disgruntled Middle Eastern types? Who knows. The UK has been here before, although I can't think of the IRA ever pulling something so confusing off, we'll get through it.

Not to speculate, but I fear it has less to do with the G8 than with Iraq and Afghanistan--fairly typical of other Al Qaeda attacks.

It seems they never run out of financial support for their activities, whether it'll be connected to G8 or Irak, someone is funding these people big time....
As they've kept themselfs pretty busy lately....

No idea. I've got friends down there and I've just heard they are alright. There's a lot of people in London so it's unlikely she was caught.

The link to the G8 seems likely considering the timing.

    Gav,

I don't know about the G8 link, this seems more insdiious. G8 violence tends to be random and usually involves violent clashes with police, doesn't it?

Notice it happened the day after the Olympic announcement. This was a coordinated attack.

BBC is saying fatalies at Edgeware road. Le Sigh. I used to live just down the road from Russell square tube and walked past it every day...same with Russell square and Tavistock square. Kings Cross was a 5 mintue walk in the opposite direction.
    has my take on it.

Oh, com'on, black sense of humor.
you know, things like that are not to be taken seriously.
And honestly, I am shocked by how the toll of death has increased from the initial 4 to 12 to in the meantime between 33 and 40!
No, Zelda - it wasn't funny, and I am by very far amused by actions like these, believe me. I find this fight against innocent people totally disgusting!

CNN reports 33 dead in 4 explosions (3 on the tube, 1 on a bus), and BBC now says the same. The MBTA (Mass. Bay Trasit Auth.) here in Boston now has a major security upgrade, delays all over the place. NPR does not want to cite a body count, due to no accurate count... Jeeze.

What a day. Hope you're all OK.

OMG. Who cares how close you used to live to the attacks, you attention *****! You said this in the other thread by Louweasel- come off it already. You should be thinking of the people who may have been hurt or lost a loved one, not about you and how you just BARELY missed by the bombs by a few thousand miles and a year!

And then you post a link to your LJ so we can read about what you think, as though it's important amongst all the chaos that London is going through right now. You are SUCH a prick.

Um, moron... you just contradicted yourself. According to your advice, it's better to say nothing, but you just commented on my comments making you a hypocrite. Ah, this is too easy.
